How do you plan to become informed about the candidates in the city election?

  1. Attend forums to meet, and hear, all the candidates.
  2. News stories and news web sites.
  3. Candidate campaign literature, mailers, and web sites.
  4. Discussion with friends, neighbors, others I respect.
  5. All or most of the above.
  6. Although it’s a non-partisan race, I check party affiliation.
  7. My mind is already made up.
  8. I am eligible to vote but am not planning to; I won’t be following this election.

Why bother ? ?

The preponderance of Politicians of ANY stripe are just THAT : Politicians -- namely, One of those who seek by subterfuge, stealth and teflon-tongues to convince you that they serve your interests -- All the while that they serve their own and those of their clients.

The child-like inclinations and imaginations of too many citizens and voters prevent them from seeing this and they continue to live in a cozy, warm and fuzzy blankey of Conservatude, serving their "deserving" masters.

Continued from below --

Researchers have found that such inclinations are, with about 80% certainty, predictable via a study of the brain structure of the subject -- So, too many voters likely can not help themselves -- nor likely I, either. . Thus, we are pawns of our genetic profiles.

That's quite an interesting hypothesis Allenwoll, it would leave us void of human emotion, is this the only alternative we have?

BC -- Considering the stubborness of some people, evident in their refusal to consider even VERIFIED facts, I know of no other explanation for such behavior : There MAY be one, but I have not heard/seen such.

lwmjr -- Oh ! ! -- I am sooooo sorry to have once again excited your typical GoPer-Groupie allergy to verifiable fact. . Perhaps The Trumpet Daffodil will soon impanel a commission tasked with deeply burying such things OUT of GoPer-Sight ! ! !

You have my sympathies -- Life in a custom-made Universe must be hard for you ! ! !

QUOTE "Life in a custom-made Universe must be hard for you ! ! !" -- Allen, Allen, Allen ... there you go AGAIN with your assumptions! You have once AGAIN taken over a topic of "How do you plan to become informed about the candidates in the city election?" & turned it into your anti-conservative innuendo. You have a one-track mind.

lwmjr -- Your head must feel really heavy toting around all your eye- ear- and brain-armor ! !

What ANY candidates have to say while running is demonstrably irrelevant to their subsequent actions : THAT only depends upon the demands of their paying clients.

THAT is what I said in my original post and is entirely relevant in any discussion involving candidacy ! ! It comes back to "WHY BOTHER ? ? ?"

Allen - Let me spell it out for you. Regardless of your NEGATIVE attitude, telling others "Why bother" there will still be an election this November. What we are in dire need of is constituents to do their homework, weed out the ones that are only in it their for their own personal gains & then vote in the best there is available. Like the expression "Hope for the best and do with what you get". You should be urging the residents to "Get out and Vote", not "stay home & don't bother". Don't vote, then don't complain when things begin heading south.

lwmjr -- In a functioning nation/world, your views would, of course, be entirely correct. . I lived there once -- long ago ! !

However, we presently live in under "Conservatude" where our wishes, needs AND rights are expressly and meticulously ignored by a powerful Oligarchy, part of a larger one reaching round the entire world and : based on ONE and ONLY one consideration : MONEY ! ! ! -- And yet MORE MONEY ! ! !

However, with Automation coming inexorably, they might want to think a bit -- No, a LOT -- more about money.

You are being :a good fellow" in their eyes and, like so very many other people, you are carefully ignoring the obvious ! ! !

For all I know, you may be one of them -- But I would really not expect to meet one HERE ! !

Allen - Contrary to your beliefs, I still consider us to be living "In a functioning nation/world". Some places more screwed up than others, but still functioning. I still have hope.

lwmjr -- Do you understand the state of existence which I have termed "CONSERVATUDE" ?

Do you have an opinion on the ultimate LONG-TERM relationship between extreme Automation and MONEY ? ? . The fact, in my opinion, simply follows basic arithmetic.

Allen - No point in carrying on this conversation as your views and my views are, let's just say, at the total opposite end of the spectrum. I encourage every constituent to attend the forums and to research all the candidates and then "Get out and Vote". Simply, DON'T vote for someone because you are being told to. Take a few minutes and find out about this individual. With Burch gone, the remaining council is going to feel bombarded as some up there do very little, while other's like Burch carried a huge load. It's due time the "dead wood" up there have to prove themselves.

lwmjr -- As long as we allow our Elected "Representatives" to be swayed by MONEY, then there is absolutely no point in voting ! ! As one Old-Timer once said " All voting does is to ENCOURAGE those rascals ! ! !

Folks like you are a major, MAJOR part of our problem in this nation today : You are obviously clueless and living in a Dream World from the rosy past ! ! !

Just keep it up and, regrettably, one day the lid will come flying off -- and we will wing up EVEN YET WORSE OFF than now ! ! !

Straw Poll- Top Votes - Civic Forum

Mayor - Joe Coviello Dist. 1 - Graham Morris Dist. 4 - Richard Leon Dist. 5 - David Stokes Dist. 6 - Rick Williams

The above is just a point of info. One can find all of the other candidate's results on another web site. Or, maybe The Civic web site.

Ftr & lwmjr -- You BOTH are traitors to classical Democracy ! ! !

Just WHO then are YOUR client$ ? ? ?

Voting today is the irresponsible act of a political sucker ! ! !

The Patriot stays home and then fights whoever is "elected" as they serve their paying clients and neglect the interests of those who elected them ! ! !

BTW Allenwoll... I am not a traitor to classical Democracy. I do not have clients. I am not a political sucker. So, please zip it! By posting the straw poll votes for Civic does not at all indicate that I am in agreement with the outcome. It was posted for informational purposes only.

The Straw Poll is NOT always right. I know of many voters who disagree with this poll & I, like many others, have NOT made-up my mind on all the districts, but I have made up my mind that I will NOT be voting for Williams or Stokes. Leon will only get my vote if he completely drops the extended Bar Hour issue. It's been voted down twice already. If he continues to feel the need to challenge his constituents instead of listening to his constituents wishes, then he shouldn't be re-elected. I also strongly believe that the race for Mayor is still wide open. Time will tell.

Ftr -- What has the "Right to Vote" have to do with the expectation for the positive effect of your doing so ? ? ? . ENJOY your vote ! !

Yes, Voters do NOT (generally) have clients : The Pols are the ones with the paying clients. . As a Voter, with the expectation that your Reps will in fact serve your interests in the manner which they promise, you are indeed a "sucker" : WHAT ELSE could such a Voter be called ? ? ?

OK, does "naive" sound more pleasant to you ?
