What do you think about the proposed fire assessment?

  1. I’m in favor. The city needs money for capital improvements
  2. It’s OK if the property rate goes down as promised.
  3. I’m opposed; it’s an unnecessary tax increase.
  4. I’m not affected.
  5. Other.

Its a load of "CRAP". We pay for fire, police and other functions the city is suppose to take care of. Nothing but a bunch of do nothing self interest phonies in office, both present and past...

All this started over $20 million the city manager could not find in the budget from last year.

However they spend $13.1 million to buy foreclosed land at I think would have sold for much less a year ago. Plus they took the land off the city tax rolls. That out of the city's mouth was $250,000 a year so in 2 years that comes to half a million dollars. But best is a 5% bonus on wages with a 3% raise baked in to the give away.

Now a $32 million dollar fire dept budget being shave by 72% or $23 million and handed to the residents as a Fire Assessment.

All these new taxes including the Utility Tax on electricity are open ended. Meaning the sky is the limit.

Lee County Electric has held its rates for 5 years. If the costs go up the & cents on the dollar today changes and just because the % stays the same. The account holders will PAY MORE!

The 3% increase in valuation brought in over $12 million dollars in extra tax dollars LAST YEAR. 2.3 times will bring $27.6 million
