Ask Marilyn: How Did the U.S. Become the Leader in Rock Music?

Marilyn: I believe that most of the world sees us as the leader in rock music. This certainly wasn't the case with classical music, where Europeans dominated. How did we start this modern phenomenon?
I think it's because we invented the electric guitar. It's easily the most important instrument ever to arise in this country. Combine that with amplification, and you have the makings of a music revolution. And a hearing-impaired population.
