Tragedy strikes Chicago

June 26, 2020

To the editor:

This past weekend from mid afternoon Friday through early Monday morning 106 people were shot in Chicago, 14 fatally, including five children. Most of the victims of these heinous crimes were black.

With great hope these violent and mostly intra-racial shootings and murders will warrant a massive peaceful protest in the Austin Park area from the Black Lives Matter Movement, coupled with the Memorial attendance by Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson and the leadership of the NAACP, for those who died from this outrageous violence. Let their leadership condemn these horrific crimes and blame those guilty of these heinous actions.

Three-year-old Mekhi James was murdered in this violence. The true tragedy is that this innocent little boy and the other children who were killed were victims of gang-related murders that continue to plague some Chicago communities without condemnation or help from the Black leadership.

Where was the media in reporting these shootings and murders?

Wake up, America! No child deserves to die, as did 3- year-old Mekhi James, from the ignorance of this violence.
