Kid’s World Preschool breaks ground for second location

Kid's World Preschool has been open since February 2008.

Two years ago, owners Evelyn Monteagudo and her husband decided they wanted to open a second location.

Vantage Construction Services, LLC broke ground at 1942 Skyline Blvd. Tuesday morning. The new center is expected to open next year in February.

It's been a goal for Monteagudo for a while.

"For a couple of years, we have been blessed to be full at capacity and have a waitlist," she said. "There is definitely a need in the Cape for child care.

"I get emails from people all the time asking when the new location will be ready."

Fact Box

Kid's World Preschool

Current location: 1126 N.E. 16th Terrace

Upcoming in 2021: 1942 Skyline Blvd.

Information: 239-573-7233 and

Open: 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through

Friday; Closed Saturday and Sunday

The new Skyline building will be in between Trafalgar Middle School, Trafalgar Elementary School, Patriot Elementary School and Challenger Middle School.

That's part of the reason why Monteagudo chose the new spot.

"Right now, we're across the street from Diplomat Middle School," she said. "It was my plan to be near schools. It just makes it easier for parents."

On Tuesday, the construction company took photos with hard hats and golden shovels.

Business Development Specialist Karen Ramos, from the Cape Coral Economic Development office, was in attendance along with Monteagudo, the project's architect, project manager and project superintendent.

The new 10,000-square-foot Skyline Boulevard location should be open in mid- to late-February next year, if the weather and hurricane season cooperate.

The flagship Kid's World location is at 1126 N.E. 16th Terrace.

President of Vantage Construction Services and project manager for the job, Phil Morris, said that by June 30, they'll have the concrete slab down for the foundation and they'll start working on the walls.

"The block walls will go up, then the roof," he said. "Then we'll start working on the interior - electric, plumbing and building the walls inside."

Morris lives in Cape Coral. Two years ago, he saw a "Coming Soon" sign at Kid's World's new site and asked Connie Boyd to do some research and contact Monteagudo.

Then they found architect, Art Castellanos of Castellanos + Tramonte Architects, to work on the project.

"It's a brand new building," Monteagudo said. "It's nice and spacious with large classrooms. I'm excited to have a clean start."

When her children were young, Monteagudo had a hard time finding a good, affordable daycare.

Costs can add up, too, if you have multiple children.

"It was insane for me to drop them off and pick them up because there were really no good options," she said.

Kid's World tries to find a happy medium.

"We are affordable and we provide quality," Monteagudo said. "It's a true preschool setting."

Children may begin the full-day program at 2 years old until they're ready to begin Kindergarten. Children up to 9 years old are accepted into the "Kids Club" program. The preschool aims to provide children with high quality, systematic, research-based curricula and they use the Creative Curriculum in all classrooms. It consists of developmentally appropriate programs that support active learning and encourage progress in all developmental areas.

On its website, Kid's World Preschool indicates it does not discriminate on the basis of ethnicity, economic level, family structure, language, religion, sex, national origin or disability.

"There are some schools that charge what we charge, but they don't include lunch," Monteagudo said. "We do. We want to be able to provide everything and that's what I wanted."

Monteagudo opened Kid's World with one goal in mind.

"The moment I thought about doing this, I said we have to be accessible to everyone. It doesn't matter where you come from, we're going to provide the same level of service."

And soon Cape Coral residents will have even more Kid's World options.
