Position: Chief legislative assistant

Company/Organization: State Rep. Dane Eagle, Florida House of Representatives District 77

Industry: State government

Contact Information: or 239-772-1291

Address: 1039 S.E. 9th Place, Cape Coral, 33990

Your business at as glance:

What you do: As chief legislative assistant to Rep. Eagle, I am responsible for the operations of the legislative office (both in the District and at the Capitol) in all aspects, including advancement of policy and budget priorities from concept to passage; cutting red tape for constituents; and serving as liaison to the community.

Unique Niche: Adaptability. Every legislator has a different working style and, often, the success of a legislative team depends on the personality "fit" between the legislator and the aide.

Bragging Rights: Since 1995, I have had the privilege to work with four Members of the Florida House of Representatives. Over the last 17 years, I have served the good people of Cape Coral alongside former Rep. and Lt. Gov. Jeff Kottkamp, former Rep. Gary Aubuchon and current State Rep. Dane Eagle, all of whom became highly-effective legislators and ascended the ranks of leadership in the Florida House. I am exceedingly proud of the work we have done together. Being able to help each of my bosses achieve great success as legislators, while balancing my responsibilities to my husband and children, is very gratifying.

Where you see your business in five years: The best part of my work is being in a position to help others in a really meaningful way. Whatever the next five years bring, I hope it will include the opportunity to do good for others.

About you:

Describe yourself in one word: Resourceful

Hero, Role Model or Mentor: R.Z. "Sandy" Safley hired me as his legislative assistant in 1995 at a time when the political landscape in Florida was much different than today. Though Republicans had made electoral gains -- indeed the Florida Senate was evenly split between Democrats and Republicans -- Democrats were in control of the legislative and executive branches of government in Florida, and term limits had not kicked in. Rep. Safley, a Republican, invested a lot of confidence in me despite the fact I had no experience in the legislative process. Because Republicans were the minority party in the Florida House at that time, we had to work smarter to achieve successful outcomes. Through his unique style of mentoring, I learned how to operate the mechanics of the legislative process, the importance of understanding the Rules of the Florida House -- and how to use them effectively -- and fine-tuned my political radar. Shifts in electoral fortune, term limits and technology have changed the process over the last 25 years, but the fundamentals remain the same.

Person you'd most like to meet: Queen Elizabeth II

Book that changed your life: "The Four Agreements," Don Miquel Ruiz

Best business advice you've ever received: "The game you're watching is not the game being played."

Biggest risk you've ever taken: Changing course from law school to pursue a master's degree in political science

Personal passion: These lyrics from "Uncaged" by Zac Brown articulate it best: "Gonna take every chance I'm given through the wind, through the open plain freedom is a gift, get livin' go chase that sunset highway down "

Guilty pleasure: Music festivals, travel
