FMPD P.A.L. boxers win national titles

The FMPD Police Athletic League Boxing Academy traveled to Kissimmee, Florida, the weekend of Nov. 22-24, to compete in the Sugar Bert National Tournament.

The team of P.A.L. Boxers brought back five Sugar Bert National titles.

Nicholas Ortiz won the 13-year-old division at 90 pounds at the Surgar Bert Nationals.

* Nicholas Ortiz in the 13-year-old division at 90 lbs

* Yaslee Alvarez in the 12-year-old female division at 114 lbs

* Jeremy Pozo in the 17-year-old division at 132 lbs

* Terry Sanders in the 11-year-old division at 106 lbs

* Felix Camacho in the seniors division at 141 lbs

Sugar Bert Boxing Promotions, named for the former Golden Gloves boxer, Sugar Bert, hosts thousands of amateur boxers, coaches, and families annually at competitions around the country.

The Fort Myers P.A.L. Team and coaches traveled to the event with the help of community sponsors and the FMPD P.A.L. organization that is part of Chief Derrick Diggs Community Engagement Initiative to bring sports programs to young children and teenagers.
