December programs set at Northwest Regional Library

Next month's roster of activities at Northwest Regional Library offers topics for all ages. The following activities are free to the public:

Adult Programs

10-Year Anniversary Celebration: Welcome Announcement

10 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 5

Library staff will be giving a welcoming address inside the Northwest Regional Library branch for all patrons.

English Caf

10:30 a.m., Thursdays, Dec. 5, 12, 19

Free, informal conversation sessions for adult ESOL/ESL students.

Author Visit: "The Seine: The River That Made Paris" with Elaine Sciolino

2 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 5

Author of The New York Times bestseller "The Only Street in Paris: Life on the Rue des Martyrs" and a contributing writer for The New York Times, Elaine Sciolino will discuss her new book.

Artsy Adult Craft:

Holiday Decorations

1 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 14

Come join us for another artsy adult craft and make holiday decorations using recycled paper. Supplies will be provided so just bring yourself and some creativity. Registration is required.

New Movie Matinee

1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 18

Each month we'll enjoy some popcorn and grab one of the hottest newly released DVDs to show. Movie ratings will vary and this program is primarily intended for adult audiences.

Children's Programs

Toddler Tales

10:15 & 11:15 a.m., Mondays, Dec. 2, 9

For ages 18 - 36 months. This interactive and active time for toddlers and their caregiver is designed to advance prereading and social skills. They'll experience storytelling, wordplay, felt board stories, fingerplays, puppets, singing, music-making, socializing, dancing and, of course, books. Please pick up a Storytime ticket at the Youth Services desk the morning of the program. Space is limited.

Baby Rhyme Time

10:30 a.m. Wednesdays, Dec. 4, 11

10 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 14

For babies through 18 months. During this special storytime, you and your baby will learn new nursery rhymes and fingerplays, interact with puppets, sing, read books and dance.

Kids Read Down Fines

4:30 5:30 p.m., Wednesdays, Dec. 4, 11

10 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 21

Children and teens can earn a $2 credit for every 15 minutes they read in the designated area for a total of $8 in one session. Credit may be applied to cards issued to patrons age 18 and under only and applies only to charges on overdue materials. Please bring your library card.

10-Year Anniversary Celebration: Family Storytime with Gulf Coast Symphony

10:30 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 5

To celebrate our 10 year anniversary, members of the Gulf Coast Symphony will join us for a special family storytime. No registration required. For families with children up to age 5.

10-Year Anniversary Celebration: Photo Op with Disney's Belle

Noon 1 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 5

Have your picture taken with Belle from Disney's "Beauty and the Beast" as she visits to celebrate our 10 year Anniversary.

10-Year Anniversary Celebration: Tween Escape Room

3:30 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 5

A special Escape Room event for the tweens in the community. Registration opens Nov. 7. For Grades 3-5. Registration is required.

Super Fun Saturday

10 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 7

Come play with us at the library. Activities change monthly and vary from dancing, storytelling, art projects and more. Fun for the whole family.

Battleship Coding

4 p.m., Monday, Dec. 9

It's Computer Science Education Week and we will be combining the board game Battleship and Spheros as our attack weapon. Registration begins Nov. 9 and is only guaranteed until the start of the program.

Kindness Club

4:30 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 10

Join us at the library to create kindness in our community. Kids can participate in fun activities designed to encourage kindness & help make the world a better place. For children in grades K-5. Registration begins Nov. 12. Your reservation is guaranteed only until the start of the program.

Family Frozen Night

5 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 17

This family program is for fans of all things Frozen. For ages 3-11. Registration begins Nov. 5. Your registration is only guaranteed until the start of the program.

Winter Wonderland

10:30 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 19

It's beginning to look a lot like winter. Enjoy winter themed activities, crafts and more. For children up to age 5.

Special Needs Sensory Storytime

10 a.m., Friday, Dec. 20

This storytime emphasizes books, music and sensory experiences designed for children with special needs. The library's welcoming environment will create a positive experience for children. Each child must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver who will be an active participant in the program. Class size is limited to 10 children, plus their parents or caregivers. For children ages 3-12 with special needs and their families.

Lego Club

2 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 21

Join us for a short story and Lego building activities. Legos provided for use during this program. No registration is required.

Teen Programs

It's Supposed to be Ugly

4:30 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 3

Want to win the ugliest holiday T-shirt contest this year? Now's your chance to let your creativity loose and design your own. Snacks and supplies are provided while they last. For teens in grades 6-12.

TAG: Teen Advisory Group

4:30 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 4

Help us make the teen zone the place to be. Suggest new books and other materials, help with planning and running programs and express your creative side by helping with displays and decorating the teen zone. Service hours and light snacks provided. For teens grades 6-12.

10-Year Anniversary Celebration:

Teen Escape Room

2:30 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 5

A special Escape Room event for the teens in the community. Registration is requested. For Grades 9-12.

Sleepy Saturday Movie Day

2 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 14

Sleep in, it's Saturday. Then, spend the afternoon watching a movie and enjoying light snacks in the Teen Zone. For teens grades 6-12.

COAL

4:30 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 17

Teens do you need service hours? Northwest Regional Library has a solution. COAL (Compassion, Openness, Acceptance and Learning) is a program available for teens discussing relevant topics, introducing presenters and of course connecting with the community. Light snacks provided. For teens grades 6-12.

Game On

Noon, Wednesday, Dec. 18

Game On. Live in the teen zone during after school hours. Now's the time to settle the score. Join in the fun and challenge your friends to a variety of board games and video games. And, of course, UNO. For teens in grades 6-12.

Teen Movie Afternoon

2:30 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 19

Start your holiday break by spending the afternoon with a movie and enjoying light snacks in the Teen Zone. For teens in grades 6-12.
