Seedings set for district volleyball tournament

The seedings have been announced for the upcoming district volleyball matches.

5A-8 tournament: Port Charlotte, which did not play a district match this season, is the top seed for next week's District 5A-8 tournament. The Pirates earned the top spot, and a bye, based on strength of schedule. Ida Baker, which had the best district record, is the second seed and also earned a bye. Monday's first-round matches have Island Coast at Cypress Lake, with the winner facing Port Charlotte on Tuesday. Mariner takes on Cape Coral on Monday, with a trip to Ida Baker on Tuesday for the winner. The district final is Thursday at the highest remaining seed.

District 3A-8 tournament: Bishop Verot will be the third seed in next week's tournament, opening Tuesday against Moore Haven. Oasis is the fifth seed and plays at Neumann on Tuesday. The semifinals are Wednesday and the championship on Friday. Community School of Naples is the top seed, with Canterbury the No. 2 seed.

Volleyball

Canterbury 3, North Fort Myers 1: The Red Knights fell 25-21, 25-19, 19-25, 25-12 and slipped to 14-9 on the season with the four-set home loss to a 17-4 Canterbury squad.

Seacrest Country Day 3, Bishop Verot 0: Verot (9-11) fell 25-15, 25-18, 25-17 to Seacrest (19-5).

Mariner 3, Cypress Lake 2: The match went back and forth, with the odd-numbered sets going to the Tritons in a 25-22, 13-25, 28-26, 14-25, 15-11, in a District 5A-8 match at Cypress Lake. Mariner is home Thursday against South Fort Myers.

LaBelle 3, Ida Baker 1: A good start didn't hold up for the Bulldogs, dropping a road 25-20, 20-25, 17-25, 18-25 decision at LaBelle. The Bulldogs have Cypress Lake on Thursday in a home match.

Boys bowling

Mariner 5, Riverdale 0: Trent Gifford led a Senior Night victory for the Tritons with a 196 game.

Bishop Verot 5, Ida Baker 0: Tanner Filla rolled a 214 to lead the Vikings to an 11-0 record.

Cape Coral d. South Fort Myers, forfeit: The Wolfpack was not able to field a team.

Girls bowling

Riverdale 4, Mariner 1: Colbi Covington bowled a 204 to lead the Raiders. Mariner faces Dunbar on Thursday.

Bishop Verot 5, Ida Baker 0: The Vikings (5-6) were led by Angela Evans with a 155 game.

Cape Coral 5, South Fort Myers 0: Jasmine Salavics bowled a 226 as the 12-0 Seahawks dominated the Wolfpack 763-410.

Late Monday

Volleyball

Oasis 3, Moore Haven 0: The Sharks rolled 25-11, 25-25, 26-24 to reach 12-10 on the season Oasis beat the Terriers in consecutive matches.
