August 9, 2019

The Cape Coral Police Department Volunteer Unit is looking for Cape Coral's best to become a part of the family.

The CCPD Citizens Police Academy will be held the week of Nov. 11 and complete on Nov. 15. The academy runs from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day at police headquarters.

"If you have some time, and an interest in both giving back to your community and becoming part of a world-class law enforcement agency, the Cape Coral Police Department Police Volunteer Unit may be for you," said CCPD spokesperson Master Sgt. Patrick O'Grady.

The academy is headed by Jerry Monroe, and offers citizens a chance to help out the department that provides over $1 million a year in in-kind services.

"The Cape Coral Police Department has an incredibly active and vibrant Police Volunteer Unit," said O'Grady. "From administrative tasks at Police Headquarters to checking vacant homes for vacationing residents, to helping patrol the roads and waterways of Cape Coral, our Police Volunteer Unit is busy giving back to the community and helping to make Cape Coral a safe place to live, work, and play."

The volunteer unit is for men and women of all ages who want to learn about and become a part of CCPD. The one-week program will have volunteers learn the basics of police procedures, how to operate department vehicles and equipment, direct traffic, communicate on radios and more.

There will be road training up to six months following the academy.

"From administrative tasks at Police Headquarters to checking vacant homes for vacationing residents, to helping patrol the roads and waterways of Cape Coral, our Police Volunteer Unit is busy giving back to the community and helping to make Cape Coral a safe place to live, work, and play," said O'Grady.
