Northwest Regional Library programs set for August

Next month's roster of activities at Northwest Regional Library offers topics for all ages. The following activities are free to the public:

Adult Programs

English Caf

10:30 a.m., Thursdays, Aug. 1, 15, 22, 29

Free, informal conversation sessions for adult ESOL/ESL students.

Artsy Adult Craft

1 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 10

Come join us for another Artsy Adult Craft. We will be doing 3D quilling projects out of recycled books. Supplies will be provided, so just bring yourself and some creativity. Registration is required.

Books & Bagels

10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 14

Join us for a morning of books, fun and bagels. Get recommendations from friends, neighbors and librarians on everything from recent releases to forgotten classics. Bagels and coffee will be provided.

New Movie Matinee

1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 21

Each month we'll enjoy some popcorn and grab one of the hottest, newly released DVDs to show. Movie ratings will vary and this program is primarily intended for adult audiences.

Tea Time Talks

6 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 27

Join us for an evening of books, fun and cookies. Get recommendations from friends, neighbors and librarians on everything from recent releases to forgotten classics. Tea and cookies will be provided. No registration is required.

Basic Computer Class

10 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 28

Bring your fully charged tablets, phones, e-readers or other devices for a hands-on help session. Get help with basic and general computer questions, library databases or e-books. Note: Please bring any passwords you may need.

Children's Programs

Discovery Baby

10:30 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 1

For babies up to 23 months. This special interactive program is a play-date designed just for babies and their caregivers. Come and discover lots of easy literacy activities, rhymes and more. Please dress babies for some messy play. Sponsored by the Friends of Northwest Regional Library. Registration begins July 11.

Super Fun Saturday

10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 3

Come play with us at the library. Activities change monthly and vary from dancing, storytelling, art projects and more. Fun for the whole family.

STEAM Club: It's Electric

4:30 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 20

Be ready for fun experiments and projects as we explore the world of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math). Please dress for mess. For grades K - 5. Registration begins July 23.

Early Literacy Day

10:30 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 22

Get ready to read through fun activity stations designed for our youngest learners. Each station promotes the seven early literacy skills that prepare a child for reading and writing. Children and caregivers will share books, words, rhymes, stories and playtime. For children up to age 5. Registration is required.

Family Storytime

10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 24

For children up to age 5. Your whole family is invited to this enjoyable, all-ages storytime that encourages the development of prereading skills through songs, rhymes, fingerplays and stories.

Toddler Tales

10:15 & 11:15 a.m., Monday, Aug. 26

For ages 18 - 36 months. This interactive and active time for toddlers and their caregiver is designed to advance prereading and social skills. They'll experience storytelling, wordplay, felt board stories, fingerplays, puppets, singing, music-making, socializing, dancing and, of course, books. Tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis and are available the morning of the program. Please be sure to stop by the Information Desk upon arrival to guarantee your child's spot.

Pajama Storytime

6:15 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 27

On this starry night, bring out your favorite blankie, stuffed animal and, of course, your pajamas. Enjoy stories and songs and enjoy and evening with a calm and family fun experience.

Baby Rhyme Time

10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 28

For babies up to 18 months. During this special storytime, you and your baby will learn new nursery rhymes and fingerplays, interact with puppets, sing, read books and dance. Caregivers are encouraged to model proper storytime etiquette by remaining in the room and participating with baby during this program.

Preschool Storytime

10:15 & 11:15 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 29

For ages 3-5. Children attend this program independently while the caregiver waits nearby. Your preschooler will continue to build relationships with other kids, books, and the library in a storytime designed specifically for them. The stories and activities are more complex, but just as fun.

Teen Programs

Game On

2 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 20

Now's the time to settle the score. Join in the fun and challenge your friends to a variety of board games and video games. And, of course, UNO. For teens in grades 6-12.
