Passenger count climbs at Southwest Florida International Airport

During March, 1,482,239 passengers traveled through Southwest Florida International Airport in Fort Myers, an increase of 7.4 percent compared to March 2018. Year-to-date, passenger traffic is up 7.4 percent compared to last year.

The traffic leader in March was Southwest Airlines with 288,142 passengers traveling to and from Fort Myers. Rounding out the top five airlines were Delta (280,584), Spirit (187,471), Ameri-can (175,855) and United (142,387).

Southwest Florida International Airport had 11,202 aircraft operations, an increase of 2.7 percent compared to March 2018. Page Field saw 11,086 operations, a 31.7 percent increase from March 2018. In addition, nearly 3 million pounds of air freight moved through Southwest Florida International Airport in March 2019.

Southwest Florida International Airport served nearly 9.4 million passengers in 2018 and is one of the top 50 U.S. airports for passenger traffic. Fiesta at Fort Myers Brewing Company during Taco Fest today

Fort Myers Brewing Company is hosting a Cinco de Mayo pre-party at the second annual Taco Fest today, May 3. The fiesta gets started at 3 p.m. at Fort Myers Brewing Company, 12811 Commerce Lakes Drive, Suite 28, in Fort Myers.

The event features local craft beer, music and taco trucks including Taco Tummy, El Local, Red Roc Cravings, King's Tacos and Burritos, Rollin' Raw Bar, Wicked Streatery and Farmers Corn. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and to be prepared to crush tons of tacos.

Pediatric Dentistry of Florida collected 1,138 pounds of food for the Harry Chapin Food Bank of Southwest Florida during its third annual touch-a-truck on April 27, 2019. This equates to 900 meals additional meals the food bank will be able to serve the Southwest Florida community.

Attorneys to provide free legal advice at Edison Mall

Free legal consultations are available from Lee County Bar Association member attorneys from 10 a.m/ to 2 p.m., Saturday, May 27, at the Edison Mall. The Law in the Mall event is marking its 25th year of public service as part of the bar's Law Week, an annual series of events designed to celebrate the role of law in American society.

Florida Skin Center donates $3,000 to local philanthropic organizations

Florida Skin Center has donated $3,000 to two regional charities - Children's Advocacy Center of Southwest Florida and The New Beginnings of SWFL Inc. - as part of its "Dermatology from the Heart" program.

Now in its second year, "Dermatology from the Heart" is Florida Skin Center's way of giving back to the communities it serves via philanthropic organizations that reflect team members' values. These contributions are part of $88,000 that Florida Skin Center has donated since 2015.

The CAC offers therapeutic counseling, parenting education and prevention programs, among other initiatives, to victims of abuse and neglect.

Additionally, The New Beginnings provides family-style housing and lifetime guidance, among other forms of support, to single mothers living in poverty.

7th Annual Hooters and Hounds pet adoption event on May 11

Fort Myers Hooters is partnering with Lee County Domestic Animal Services, Gulf Coast Humane Society and Big Hearts for Big Dogs Rescue for a pet adoption event Saturday, May 11, the Hooters of Fort Myers. The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Hooters located at 4411 Cleveland Avenue in Fort Myers. The six previous Hooters and Hounds events have resulted in the adoption of 99 dogs.

Hooters and Hounds is a fun filled day for the community to come out and adopt pets and meet their local Hooters Girls.
