'Flute Favorites' at Zion Lutheran Church tonight

Internationally acclaimed flautist Angela Massey will perform "Flute Favorites" at Zion Lutheran Church in Fort Myers at 7 tonight, April 12. This flute and piano program will include a "Sonata" by Johann Sebastian Bach, the Enescu "Cantabile et Presto," Kelly "Passage" for piccolo, Prokofiev "Sonata" and the "Carmen Fantasy" by Bizet-Borne.

Massey will be joined by Hsin-I?Huang from New York City.

Massey's debut album has been described as "beautiful and enchanting, the performances on this CD are magical."

Donations are encouraged.

Wesley United Methodist Church to host Easter Egg Hunt Saturday

Families are invited to hop on over to Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church's annual Easter Egg Hunt Saturday, April 13, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at 4141 DeLeon St., Fort Myers. The free family-friendly event is open to the community and will include activities, food, face painting and an egg hunt for children. Church members will hide eggs filled with candy and other goodies. Egg Hunt will begin at 10:30 a.m.

"Our annual Easter Egg hunt is completely free to anyone who wants to attend," said Tina Southworth, event organizer and a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church. "Church members donate everything, from their time to sponsoring the food and entertainment."

Hamburgers, hot dogs, chips and bottled water are free while supplies last. The event also offers a bounce house, a DJ, face painting and crafts.

"Our members look forward to this every year," Southworth said. "It's part of the church's community outreach and our foundation to share God's love with the local community."

Messiah Lutheran to present 'The Passion of the Christ'

Messiah Lutheran Church will present "The Passion of Christ" on Palm Sunday, April 14, at 3 p.m., at the church at 2691 N.E. Pine Island Road, one mile west of U.S. 41, in Cape Coral.

The church is presenting Barthold Heinrich Brockes' Passion, set to the music of George Frideric Handel. Brockes was an influential German poet to reworked the traditional form of a Passion oratorio, adding reflective and descriptive poetry, sometimes of a highly-wrought and emotional kind into the texture of his Passion.

Brockes' Passion premiered in Hamburg in 1719 and Messiah Lutheran's presentation marks its 300th anniversary year.

Tripp to perform Palm Sunday at First Baptist Church of Pine Island

First Baptist Church of Pine Island welcomes the public to hear Alan Curtis Tripp in concert, Sunday, April 14, during the church's Palm Sunday Worship Service at 10:45 a.m.

In addition to performing live, Tripp has spent much of his time arranging and composing music as a recording artist. He attributes his talents to God and to his grandmother who saw a gift in him and began teaching him piano at age 9. He has embraced many genres of music including jazz, pop, classical, sacred, gospel, country and Latin.

Bothwell to present 'Experience the Kingdom of Heaven Now' at library

Mary Bothwell, a practitioner and teacher of Christian Science healing, will present "Experiencing Heaven Now," at 2:30 p.m., on Good Friday, April 19, at the Cape Coral Lee County Public Library, at 921 S.W. 39th Terrace, Cape Coral.

Bothwell is a member of the Christian Science Board of Lectureship and travels frequently from her home in Pasadena, California, to speak to audiences about Christian Science healing.

St. John The Apostle Metropolitan Community Church to hold Earth Day Festival April 27

St. John The Apostle Metropolitan Community Church, located at 3049 McGregor Blvd., is hosting an Earth Day Festival on Saturday, April 27, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The event will feature a sale, including a variety of plants, pottery, information on Florida gardening and art inspired by Florida's natural surroundings. Lunch will also be available.

Proceeds from the even will benefit the St. John The Apostle's building fund.

Community Prayer Breakfast May 2

Southwest Florida residents are invited to attend the annual Community Prayer Breakfast in observance of the National Day of Prayer Thursday, May 2, at City of Palms Park, 2201 Edison Ave., in Fort Myers. The national theme for the 2019 National Day of Prayer is "Love One Another."

The breakfast buffet begins at 6:05 a.m. and will be followed by the program at 7 a.m., emceed by city of Fort Myers Mayor Randy Henderson. This year's keynote speaker, Michael Hingson, will inspire attendees with his story of surviving the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center with the help of his guide dog, Roselle.
