Cape Coral Daily Breeze

Monday

Baseball

Cape Coral 5, Lehigh 2: Jason Slater went 3-for-3 with a triple and drove in three runs to pace Cape Coral. Danny Valdez was 2-for-3 with two doubles, scored twice and had two RBI. Starting pitcher David Cardentey went four innings, allowing two runs, for the victory. Lucas Carr pitched three scoreless in relief. The Seahawks (4-8) are home Tuesday against archrival Mariner in a District 6A-11 contest.

Southwest Florida Christian 4, North Fort Myers 1: The Red Knights slipped to 3-8 going into Wednesday's game at North Port. SFCA raised its season record to 9-3.

Softball

LaBelle 9, Bishop Verot 8: Down 8-0 in the third inning, the Vikings rallied but came up a run short. Alexis Hollinger and Ashley Smallwood led the way with multiple-hit games. Pitcher Trinity Vallee was the victim of bad luck, with only two of the nine Cowgirls (6-4) runs being earned. Vallee struck out three. Bishop Verot (7-9) is home against Lely on Thursday.

Baseball

Mariner 5, Ida Baker 1: Jimmy Meredith went the distance for the Tritons (12-1, 6-0 District 6A-11), striking out 12 with no walks, allowing four hits. Gavin Walker went 2-for-3 with a double, driving in three Mariner runs. Meredith also had two hits. Anthony Bautista and Louis Alberro each had an RBI. Mac Moise doubled to drive in the Bulldogs' run. Ida Baker slipped to 6-4, 1-2.

Island Coast 7, North Fort Myers 2: Robert Spoone doubled and had three RBI for the Gators (9-1, 3-1 District 6A-11), while Kevin Rodriguez drove in two runs and Milton Cuyler and Chase Chatman had an RBI each. Jordan Dence allowed one run in 5 2/3 innings for the win, striking out seven. The Red Knights fell to 3-6, 0-5.

Gulf Coast 4, Cape Coral 0: The Seahawks (3-7) were held to one hit by Gulf Coast while striking out 12 times in a non-district game.

Softball

Mariner 10, Ida Baker 0 (5 innings): Hannah Holloway went the five-inning distance for the win, holding Ida Baker (1-10, 1-5) to one hit and striking out eight for Mariner (9-7, 5-1 District 6A-11). Delicia Bent drove in two Tritons runs, while Kennedy Burnham, Alexis Baker, Hailey Biddle and Jamie Jarvis each had an RBI. Erinn Pratt had two hits and scored twice.

Mariner 6, Dunbar 1: Singles -- 1. Cydney Rentsch (M) 6-0, 6-0. 2. Kara Perchall (M) 6-2, 6-3. 3. Jennifer Martinez (M) 6-1, 6-0. 4. Gianna Annarumma (M) 6-0, 6-0. 5. Mariner (forfeit). Doubles -- 1. Pence/Mungia (D) 8-3. 2. Annarumma/Khang (M) 8-0.

Charle Perez (D) d. Gage Franklin 6-3, 6-4. Alex St. Laurent (M) d. A'jarion Morales 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), 11-9. Doubles -- Simon/McDonald (D) d. Perchall/Leyesa 8-5. Casseus/Perez (D) d. Late Wednesday

Softball

Oasis 16, Gateway Charter 15: The Sharks (2-6, 1-1 District 4A-5) edged a Gateway team with five seventh-graders in the starting lineup. Griffins' (4-5, 1-2) eighth-grader Gaby Santibanez went 4-for-6 with a homer, triple, five RBI and four runs scored. Oasis travels to Golden Gate on Friday.
