Bishop Verot 10, Benilde-St. Margaret's (MN) 0 (6 innings): Trinity Vallee held the visitors from Minnesota to three hits while striking out six. Jade Soto and Ashley Smallwood led the Vikings offensively.



Island Coast 5, North Port 2: The visiting Gators (9-1) were powered by the long ball on Friday, getting a three-run homer from Chase Chatman and a two-run shot off the bat of Kasey Ross. Kevin Rodriguez had two hits. On the mound, Jordan Dence struck out seven over five innings, allowing two runs, for the win. Island Coast dropped North Port to 5-5 on the season. Next up for the Gators is a road game against District 6A-11 rival North Fort Myers on Tuesday.



Sarasota Baseball Classic

Mariner 5, Lakewood Ranch 2: The Tritons (9-1) finished the Sarasota Baseball Classic 3-1 with the win. Mariner took a 5-0 lead and held on for the victory. Gavin Walker was 2-for-3 with two RBI and scored a run, Mark Bautista had two RBI, and Barron Northorp drove in the Tritons' other run. Jimmy Meredith pitched five innings, allowing two runs and striking out seven, and Xzavien Torres pitched two innings, holding Lakewood Ranch to one hit and striking out three for the save.

Mariner 3, Sarasota 2: The Tritons (8-1) pushed across the winning run in the top of the sixth to edge the Sailors (7-4). Louis Alberro drove in two Mariner runs, and Barron Northorp (2-for-3) had the other RBI. Jaylen Youngs was 2-for-4 and scored a run. Jorin Oihme pitched two scoreless innings in relief of Gavin Walker for the win. Mariner has a District 6A-11 game at Ida Baker on March 26.

Sarasota 10, Bishop Verot 0: Sarasota bounced back from its loss to Mariner, shutting out the Vikings. Bishop Verot slipped to 5-4, while the Sailors improved to 8-4. The Vikings' next game is March 26 at Seacrest Country Day in Naples.


Island Coast 6, Seacrest Country Day 1: Kevin Rodriguez pitched 3 2/3 scoreless innings for the win, holding Seacrest (3-6) to one hit. Solid pitching helped the Gators overcome five errors. Chase Chatman gave up one run in three innings, striking out seven. Island Coast (7-1) plays Friday at North Port.
