Update:

The name of the child who died Monday morning after she was struck be a vehicle has been released.

Layla Aiken, 8, succumbed to her injuries at a local hospital this morning shortly after she was struck by a vehicle at Northeast 3rd Avenue, and Northeast 19th Terrace at 6:18 a.m.

Cape Coral Police Department is in search of a red pick-up truck that was reportedly seen leaving the scene after hitting a pedestrian.

Cape Coral police are investigating a hit-and-run that fatally injured an 8-year-old girl this morning.

According to the CCPD, at around 6:18 a.m. today, police responded to a call for service in reference to a hit-and-run traffic crash at the corner of Northeast 3rd Avenue and Northeast 19th Terrace.

The child was taken to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries, police said

A major crash investigator, victim advocate, forensics and a drug recognition expert responded to assist with this investigation, police said.
