Talley Trio to perform at Zion Lutheran Church

Zion Lutheran Church's 2019 Winter Concert Series will continue tonight, March 15, with a performance by the Tally Trio. The concert is free (a love offering will be received) and will begin at 7 p.m.

The Talley Trio, a southern gospel group composed of Roger and Debra Talley, and their daughter Lauren Talley as the lead singer, has been performing for over 20 years, with appearances all over the world.

Classic Car Show Saturday at First Congregational Church

This Saturday, March 16, the First Congregational Church at 312 Santa Barbara Blvd., Cape Coral will hold its 8th Annual Classic Car Show, which promises to be a super day of fun for the family, according to church officials. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with lunch for sale. The show will feature at least 60 classic cars, with trophies, door prizes and 50/50.

Registration of $15 will be day of the show (car owners get free lunch).

Memory Makers Big Band to perform at Pine Island United Methodist Church

The Memory Makers Big Band will once again present an afternoon of music from the Big Band era at Pine Island United Methodist Church Sunday, March 17. The public is invited to enjoy an afternoon of music with Ray North and his friends in the ensemble.

The Memory Makers' Facebook page describes the band as, "We play the classic sounds of the wonderful big bands of the 30's, 40's and the 50's..."

Cake and ice cream will be served at 2 p.m. and the music begins at 2:30 p.m. The tickets are $5 and may be purchased at the door. Local missions will benefit.

'Be Still and Know' women's retreat March 23 at CCFUM

The 11th annual women's retreat entitled "Be Still and Know" will be held Saturday, March 23, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Cape Coral First United Methodist Church, 4118 Coronado Blvd., in Cape Coral.

Women of all ages, faiths and levels in their spiritual journey are invited to this one-day event, and welcomed to hear inspirational speakers and their stories of redemption and recovery through their personal faith. Music will provide an important worship element. The day will include small group discussions, listening and sharing with others, continental breakfast, lunch, gift bags and retreat materials for the registration fee of $20 per person. Free child care will be provided.

This event is hosted by the United Methodist Women of Cape Coral First United Methodist Church, the proceeds of which will benefit their work in missions.

Messiah Lutheran Church to present Renfroe in concert

Messiah Lutheran Church's director of music, John L. Renfroe, will perform a selection of meditative Lenten music Sunday, March 24, at 3 p.m.

Renfroe, who is the organist and director of the chancel choir and a variety of vocal ensembles at the church, will be performing on the Johannus Rembrandt 397 organ.

Renfroe also supervises the church's Christian Education programs and Youth Ministries, and makes visitations to the homebound.

Messiah Lutheran Church will also be presenting "The Passion of Christ" on Palm Sunday, April 14, at 3 p.m. The production tells "The Story of Jesus: Suffering and Dying for the Sins of the World."

Messiah Lutheran Church is at 2691 N.E. Pine Island Road, one mile west of U.S. 41.

'The Wine Whisperer' returning to Temple Beth Shalom March 26

Noted wine expert and author Jerry Greenfield, "The Wine Whisperer," is returning to Temple Beth Shalom, March 26, from 7-8:45 p.m., to educate and entertain.

"Enjoying wine means you like it," Greenfield said. "But appreciating wine means knowing WHY you like it."

At the event, Greenfield will teach the techniques that wine professionals use to understand and enjoy the wines they sample. Participants will sample four of the world's favorite wine varieties and pair them with cured meat, dried fruit and cheese. So not only will participants learn about wine, they'll also learn what kinds of foods enhance and complement the wines.
