North Fort Myers junior Makenzy Dupree (25) scored twice and assisted on one of teammate Emilee Hauser’s four goals during the Red Knights’ 7-0 win over Naples in the Region 3A-4 quarterfinals Tuesday night. To view more photos from the match, see the Cape Coral Breeze Facebook page.

"I thought we played well for the most part," Red Knights' coach Nick Erickson said. "I thought we got a little bit sloppy on some stuff in the back that I think we need to work on and clean up. We can't afford to be giving the ball up in the back. All in all, I thought they did a really nice job."

With the victory, North Fort Myers (19-2) will be home Friday night against old rival Cape Coral.

The Seahawks went down to Naples on Tuesday and upended Barron Collier 1-0 to set up a rematch of the District 3A-13 championship match won by North Fort Myers.

"I would think it would be along the lines of the last couple of games that we played," against Cape Coral, Erickson said. "They've got a defensive style that seems to work well for them, so I would anticipate something along those lines.

"If we stay patient and let the ball do its work, I think we'll generate some scoring chances. It's just a matter of our finishing those opportunities.

"Any time you play a team that's familiar with you, how you want to attack and do certain things, as a coaching staff you have to go into into your preparations today and tomorrow with a couple of wrinkles. And I think we'll have a couple of wrinkles to throw at them."

Dupree opened the scoring, driving a direct kick into the goal from 30 yards out at 29:11.

"It was nice to get some set pieces," Erickson said. "We've conceded some set pieces. She said she was shooting, so I'll take her word on it."

Anna Carter's corner kick was headed in by Hauser seven minutes later. Hauser connected again, this time on Michele Cohen's assist, and North was up 3-0 by the first half water break.

That margin held up for the remainder of the first half.

Dupree again got things going in the second half, scoring 90 seconds in on a Michelle Horan assist. Hauser then scored her third and fourth of the night, the the first with an assist from Dupree and the other on Taylor Metzger's assist.

"We fee like we can generate scoring opportunities," Erickson said. "Our big thing is going to be putting those opportunities in the back of the net. Because we feel we're going to get our fair share of chances."

With Erickson getting in some younger players in the late going, Taylor scored at the 8:33 mark.

"They did good," Erickson said of his reserves. "We try to encourage the level not to drop off when we're making substitutions like that, and I thought they did a really, really nice job."

Naples, which scored an upset of Lely to reach the District 3A-14 final before losing to Barron Collier, finished 8-8-3.

Cape Coral 1, Barron Collier 0: Yoselin Cardenas scored the only goal of the match as the Seahawks (10-11-2) advanced to the regional semifinal against North Fort Myers. Barron Collier, champion of District 3A-14, finished 13-6 on the season.
