American Legion Post #90 to hold blood drive Jan. 12

American Legion Post #90 will be holding a blood drive Saturday, Jan. 12, from 1-5 p.m. The Lee Health Bloodmobile will be stationed at the post, 1401 S.E. 47th St., Cape Coral. The goal of the drive is 27+ units.

Donations made through the Lee Health Blood Center will stay in Lee County and benefit local residents and visitors in need. All donors will receive a thank you gift and a wellness checkup, including blood pressure, temperature, iron control and cholesterol screening.

Powell named CEO at 21st Century Oncology

21st Century Oncology has announced that Charlie Powell, CMPE, FACHE, joined the company as the chief operating officer on Jan. 1. A cancer care provider, the company welcomes Powell as the newest member of its "One Dream Team."

Free autism screening for young children today at Golisano

Golisano Children's Hospital of Southwest Florida, in partnership with Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southwest Florida, offers a free monthly autism spectrum disorder screening for toddlers 18 months to 5 years of age.

The next screening on the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile will be held today, Jan. 11, from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Healthy Life Center Coconut Point, 23450 Via Coconut Point, Estero.

It is estimated that one in every 59 children is diagnosed with some form of Autism Spectrum Disorder, making it more common than childhood cancer, juvenile diabetes and pediatric AIDS combined.

Medical consultants for the project stress that an early diagnosis can make a vast difference for toddlers and their families. They say early intensive behavioral intervention can make an immense difference not just in the development of the child, but in their families as well.
