Boys soccer

Orlando Evans 1 Mariner 0: The Tritons (14-1-3) came up a goal short in the championship match of the 23rd annual Mike Stone Invitational at Hickory Point in Tavares. The Evans Trojans (8-5-1) collected the only goal of the match when Roldy Geneus scored on a header in the 17th minute. Mariner's Marvin Avilez was named the defensive player of the tournament, and the Trtions' Pedro Reyes and Esteban Orjuela joined Avilez on the all-tournament team. Saturday's defeat was the first of the season for Mariner. Evans, on a six-match winning streak, also handed Bishop Moore its first loss in the tournament semifinals. Bishop Moore won the third-place match Sat-urday. The Tritons' next match is today, Jan. 4, at Naples Palmetto Ridge.

Boys basketball

Winter Park 81, Oasis 41: With four players sitting out, the Sharks (9-3) had a rough time on Saturday. Taylon Hutchins, Andrew Wells, Kylar Frias and Jaren Rivera were all held out of the contest. Vladimir Dorlys had 18 points and eight rebounds for the Sharks, and received the Ryon D. Provencher Sportsmanship Award. Oasis has two games in the Lehigh New Year's Shootout, today, Jan. 4, with Lemon Bay and Jan. 5 against Riverdale.

Girls basketball

Cape Coral 58, Tarpon Springs 46: Cape Coral pulled away in the fourth quarter for a win in the College of Central Florida Holiday Shootout. Tarpon Springs was within 38-37 before Cape took control. The Seahawks improved to 9-3 with their victory against the Spongers (7-5). Next up for Cape Coral is the SUTS New Year's Classic in Coral Springs, with games against Davie Nova today, Jan. 4, and Hialeah Mater Academy Charter on Jan. 5.
