Cape Coral Daily Breeze

A second-half goal lifted the Bishop Verot Vikings past the Gulf Coast Sharks Monday in Naples.

Bishop Verot (6-0-2) is home Tuesday against Oasis in a District 2A-12 game.

The sharks are now 4-3 on the season.

Gateway Charter 4, Island Coast 0: The Gators (0-7) have a District 3A-13 match Tuesday at Cape Coral.

Sarasota Cardinal Mooney 5, Bishop Verot 2: The unbeaten Cougars (3-0-2) got the best of this battle of Catholic schools. The Vikings (1-5-1) have a District 2A-12 match at home Tuesday against Oasis.

Gateway Charter 1, Island Coast 0: The Griffins (4-4) scored the night's only goal in a defensive contest. Island Coast (0-7-1) plays Tuesday at Cape Coral in a District 3A-13 match-up.

Tampa Jesuit 3, Cape Coral 0: Jesuit (3-1) scored all three goals in the second half to down the Seahawks. Cape Coral (5-3-1) is home Tuesday against Island Coast.


Boys basketball

Ida Baker 56, Cape Coral 54: The Bulldogs' first win of the season came at the expense of rival Cape. Ida Baker (1-3, 1-1) dropped the Seahawks to 1-1, 1-1. David Aguirre scored 14 points and Vincent Quijano 11 for the Bulldogs. Travaun Smaller keyed the Seahawks with 11 points. Cape Coral will try to rebound at Island Coast on Tuesday, while Baker travels to Port Charlotte.

Riverdale 66, Mariner 33: The Raiders (3-0) dropped Mariner to 0-2 on the season. The Tritons open District 6A-12 play Tuesday at Lely.

Lemon Bay 65, Island Coast 50: The Manta Rays (2-0) won their District 7A-10 opener against Island Coast (0-3, 0-1). Island Coast is home Tuesday against Cape Coral.

Port Charlotte 63, North Fort Myers 25: The Red Knights (0-3. 0-2 District 7A-10) will try to shake off a tough opening week when they play host to Fort Myers on Tuesday.

LaBelle 60, Bishop Verot 36: Verot (1-1, 1-1) took it on the chin in a road District 5A-10 loss to LaBelle (1-1, 1-1). The Vikings face another 5A-10 rival Tuesday at home against Oasis.

Girls basketball

Mariner 57, Riverdale 30: The Tritons improved to 3-1 behind 23 points and eight rebounds by freshman Carlee Groeneveld and 19 points and six steals from junior Naomi Darrett. Mariner is home Tuesday against Lely in a District 6A-12 contest.

Port Charlotte 57, North Fort Myers 48: The Pirates (3-0. 1-0 District 7A-10) dropped North to 1-3, 0-2. The Red Knights play Tuesday at Estero.

Port Charlotte 8, Island Coast 0: The Gators fell to 0-6, 0-2 in District 3A-13. Island Coast has a home district match Tuesday against Cape Coral.

Bishop Verot 2, Fort Myers 2: The Vikings and Green Wave battled to a draw on Friday. Lander Peck and Nina Gulati scored for Bishop Verot (5-0-1), which has a match Monday at Gulf Coast.

Lemon Bay 5, Cape Coral 1: Cape slipped to 2-4, 0-1 in District 3A-13) while the Manta Rays upped their record to 5-1, 1-1. The Seahawks have a district contest at home Tuesday against Island Coast.

Cape Coral 2, Lemon Bay 0: The Seahawks (5-2-1, 1-0-1) picked up a District 3A-13 win against the Manta Rays. Dylan Linares earned the shutout in goal. Jonathan Bush and Jacob Jiminez scored the Seahawks' goals Cape Coral is home against Tampa Jesuit on Saturday.

Mariner 0, Cypress Lake 0: The Tritons played to a scoreless draw against Cypress Lake. Mariner (4-0-2, 1-0-1 District 3A-13) has a home district match Tuesday against Dunbar.

Port Charlotte 2, Island Coast 1: Port Charlotte got the winning goal in the second half to break a 1-all tie. The Gators (0-6-1, 0-2 District 3A-13) are home Tuesday against Gateway Charter.

Bishop Verot 1, Fort Myers 1: Brayden Loughren scored off a cross from Ryan Cloutier for the Vikings. Verot travels to Sarasota Cardinal Mooney on Monday.

Cypress Lake 75, Island Coast 50: The Gators fell to 0-2 to open the season with a loss to Cypress Lake. Island Coast has a home District 7A-10 game Friday against Lemon Bay.

East Lee County 76, Ida Baker 69: Baker led for the first three quarters, but the Jaguars scored 33 in the fourth period to pull out the win. Devyn Bradwell 18 points to lead Ida Baker, Bryce Donnelly 13 points and Blake Donnelly scored 12.The Bulldogs (0-3) face crosstown and District 3A-13 rival Cape Coral on Friday at Cape.

Island Coast 45, Cypress Lake 18: Island Coast (1-2) earned its first win of the season, dominating Cypress Lake (0-3). Next up for the Gators is a District 7A-10 game Friday at Lemon Bay.

Cape Coral 77, Ida Baker 8: The Seahawks improved to 2-2, 2-0 in District 7A-10, while Baker fell to 0-4, 0-1. Cape Coral is at Island Coast on Tuesday. The Bulldogs are home Tuesday against Port Charlotte.

LaBelle 2, Oasis 0: LaBelle (2-0-3, 2-0) took the early lead in District 2A-12 with a win at Oasis (2-3, 1-1). The Sharks will look to rebound Tuesday at Bishop Verot.

Oasis 5, LaBelle 1: Jillian Rone had a hat trick (three goals) to lead the Sharks (5-0, 2-0 District 2A-12) past LaBelle (3-2, 0-2). Oasis has a district match Tuesday at Bishop Verot.

Riverdale 2, Ida Baker 1: The Raiders (7-1-1, 3-0) held a 2--0 lead at the half and were able to hold off Ida Baker's comeback attempt. The Bulldogs (1-5, 0-3 District 4A-12) are home Dec. 6 against East Lee County.
