The state representative from District 77 will once again be Republican Dane Eagle, as he coasted to a decisive victory Tuesday night, defeating Democrat Alanis Elizabeth Garcia.

"I am incredibly humbled and honored," Eagle said. "This will be my fourth and final term, and term limits are a great thing here in Florida. Voters have a choice when they go to the polls, and the voters chose me - that's something I don't take lightly."

Voters cast 46,651 ballots with Eagle's name marked, as opposed to 26,887 for Garcia - a 63 to 36 percent split.

"I'm excited to get to work," Eagle said of what's next. "It was a long campaign season, and I'm looking to do the job I'm here to do."

His two priorities?

"The economy and public safety," he said. "People get up and go to work every day, and I want to make sure they feel safe doing so. I want to make sure our law enforcement officers have all of the tools they need so that people can go out, and feel safe."

District 77 covers Cape Coral and parts of Matlacha, with 157,482 residents as of the 2010 census.
