PUNTA GORDA Each year, the Most Rev. Frank J. Dewane, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Venice in Florida, calls the youth of the 10-counties in the Diocese of Venice together for a day of spiritual enrichment and Diocesan solidarity known as the "Youth Rally."

Nearly 1,800 young people are expected to attend the "Diocese of Venice 2018 Youth Rally" Saturday, Nov. 3, from noon to 8:30 p.m., at the Charlotte Harbor Event and Conference Center, 75 Taylor St., Punta Gorda.

The 11th Annual Youth Rally theme, "Be Coura-geous!" was inspired by the Bible "Stand firm in the faith, be courageous, be strong" (1 Corinthians 16:13). The rally will engage 8th through 12th grade students, offering them an opportunity for the Sacrament of Confession and a Eucharistic celebration at the end of the day. There will be time set aside for Adoration and a Eucharistic procession through the streets of Punta Gorda to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where a closing Mass will be held.

"The last few Holy Fathers, including Saint John Paul II, Pope Benedict XVI and now Pope Francis, encourage the youth to stand firm, do not be afraid and be strong in their faith, no matter what challenges we face as a Church," Bishop Dewane said. "This is one of the most exciting annual events for our Diocesan youth, and for the Diocese."

The day is filled with music, speakers, a voca-tions/Catholic College fair, and lots of fun - all of which demonstrate a powerful Diocesan commitment to youth outreach. Author, speaker and Director of the Word of Fire Institute Jared Zimmerer will be joined by Mari Pablo, a Theology teacher, who also worked on the "Theology of the Body" program for teens. For musical entertainment, Christian rock musician PJ Anderson is scheduled to perform. Anderson is ranked #7 on the iTunes Christian/Gospel playlist and has been recognized as one of the top 25 Catholic Artists in the world.
