Vote ‘no’ on ballot tax initiatives

October 4, 2018
Cape Coral Daily Breeze

To the editor:

Vote "no" on the Parks Bond that is not needed.

As reported, the parks are not needed. If the bond fails, the city still has money to do parks at a slower rate. Children really don't use parks; they are on cell phones and streaming games.

Why vote "no?"

The Cape Coral City Council just approved rate hikes on our stormwater, fire, solid waste. We don't have a choice as the bills go on our property tax. So, we are looking at an approximate $40 increase there. The fee for 10 years to pay the bond issue is another $55 a year. But here is the best part: The city has not purchased the old golf course. How much will that cost? The council promised to buy it for the public and this bond issue does not include the golf course. Double whammy.

Then council will want another tax for the golf course. Put the horse before the cart. Buy the golf course and cancel this bond idea.

Also, the school board has put a regressive sales tax for us to vote on. They claim it only costs $64 a year. I doubt that. So, if we add up a bond tax and school board tax and increases already approved by Council for stormwater, waste, fire, that's a hefty increase on retirees and young hard-working families. I don't see Social Security going up 10 percent. Even if it did they would raise Medicare for a net gain of zero.

Cape Coral citizens vote NO on all taxes and bond issues on the Nov. 6 ballot.
