Purchase a ticket for the American Business Women's Association Palms of Edisonia Fashion Show to help raise money for women looking to further their education.

ABWA Palms of Edisonia Corresponding Secretary Mary Ann Logue said they hold events throughout the year as fundraisers for their educational grants and scholarships.

"It's not always a fashion show. Sometimes they are different events. It depends on membership votes," she said.

The ABWA Fashion Show will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, at Palmetto Pines Country Club, 1940 SW 9th Court. The show will also feature lunch with the choice of salmon, or roast beef, with roasted potatoes and vegetable medley.

The last opportunity to purchase tickets, $35 a person, is Saturday, Sept. 22. For tickets, call (239) 770-2663, email, or visit

The show will showcase fashions from Christopher & Banks, a store located at the Sanibel Outlets. Fashions modeled will be available for purchase.

The event will also feature raffles, baskets and a 50/50.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to become a member of ABWA if they are not already. Logue said they are always looking for new members.

"We will have a membership table there that day. You can sign up that day if you wish," she said, adding that the membership is $140 for the year.

The national chapter of ABWA began 70 years ago.

"We provide educational grants and scholarships to women to pursue educational goals, (as well as) continuing professional development," Logue said.

She said they have different online classes that women can take for free.

"If you are a teacher and want to continue for a higher degree, you can go online and take classes and continue your ongoing education," Logue said.

Logue became a member of the chapter 30 years ago after moving from St. Louis, Missouri in 1982.

Since her sister was involved in the ABWA chapter in St. Louis, she directed her to a chapter in Fort Myers.

A retired bank professional of 45 years, she said she attended spring conferences every year in such areas as Daytona, Little Rock, Fort Lauderdale and Memphis.

"Most of them are really motivational and really uplifting. In management it helped me on time. You set a time frame for your meetings. If you have discussions with your employees, what to say and what not to use. It was always inspirational and educational and very informative. I was always delighted to go. A lot of times my boss supported me and provided me the funds to go," Logue said.
