Southwest Florida International Airport reports increased passenger traffic in June

During June, 546,159 passengers traveled through Southwest Florida International Airport in Fort Myers, Fla., an increase of 3.4 percent compared to June 2017. Year-to-date, passenger traffic is up 5.2 percent from the same period last year.

The traffic leader in June was Delta Air Lines with 133,000 passengers traveling to and from Fort Myers. Rounding out the top five airlines were Southwest Airlines (122,838), American (92,300), JetBlue (67,451) and United (49,819).

Southwest Florida International Airport had 4,850 aircraft operations, a decrease of 6.3 percent compared to June 2017. Page Field saw 7,639 operations, a 24.6 percent increase from June 2017. In addition, more than 2.5 million pounds of air freight moved through Southwest Florida International Airport in June 2018.

Junior Achievement to host Bowl-A-Thon on Aug. 29 at HeadPinz

It's time to start figuring out which of your friends and co-workers can throw a hook, hit the 7-10 split and knows how to score a turkey.

Junior Achievement of Southwest Florida is inviting all bowling enthusiasts and beginners to its seventh annual Bowl-A-Thon fundraiser from 6-8:30 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 29, at HeadPinz Entertainment Center, 14513 Global Parkway, Fort Myers.

Bowl-A-Thon is led by event chair, Taylor Loethen of Scott Fischer Enterprises.

The annual social event creates an opportunity for colleagues, friends, neighbors and families to spend an evening together at the bowling alley while raising funds for Junior Achievement's vast offering of business-oriented programs for local students.

Participants are being challenged to raise at least $750 for a six-member bowling team. Each individual will receive a team T-shirt, food and drinks, two adult beverages, bowling shoes rental and lane rental.

Doane earns professional public relations accreditation

Heather Doane, APR, of the Southwest Florida Chapter of the Florida Public Relations Association, recently earned professional public relations accreditation, and received the designation of Accredited in Public Relations.

Doane joins the more than 4,300 active public relations professionals worldwide who represent an elite group of skilled professionals committed to practicing with high ethical standards, including 35 currently in Southwest Florida.

To earn public relations accreditation, candidates must pass an oral presentation and rigorous written examination administered by the Universal Accreditation Board, which is an alliance of eight national and statewide professional associations dedicated to furthering the field of public relations and the development of public relations professionals. FPRA is a member of the UAB.

Established in 1938, the Florida Public Relations Association is the oldest public relations organization in the United States.
