Women who love to work out, but may not like the hustle and bustle of a big gym, can now find a place to call home.

Women's Total Fitness, a new workout center in Cape Coral, offers a total body workout, along with classes, in a more relaxed yet performance-driven setting.

"The women love it, it's great. You don't have to worry about being at the other gyms and impressing people," said Rhonda Goodman, owner of Women's Total Fitness.

A Chicago native, she moved to Cape Coral 12 years ago and decided to open the facility when the offer to purchase the space came about.

Goodman had previously worked at a "chain" gym and knew the need of a place like Women's Total Fitness in Cape Coral.

"There wasn't anything around here for women like (this) any more," noted Goodman.

She got the name from the popular acronym W.T.F. over a couple of drinks with some friends Goodman said smiling.

Her gym has been open for about a month and is for women of all ages and fitness levels.

"I'd like to see women from their mid-20s to people who are almost 90 working out. One lady is 89 and she works out every day, five days a week. It's amazing."

To Goodman, what separates her from the competition is the gym setting and programs she offers to members.

"It's just the women. So, you're not just trying to impress people. And then the 30-minute full body workout so you're not at a gym for two, three hours a day," is what makes Women's Total Fitness unique, she said.

The new facility designs 30-minute workouts in strength training, energizing circuits, body basics, boxing, cardio, dancing and balance.

It also offers 30-minute and hour-long Zumba classes on Tuesday's at 10:30 a.m..

The circuit consists of 11 machines that members spend 30 seconds each at, followed by 30 seconds of mat-work in which they can choose whichever form of training they wish - whether it is cardio, boxing, balance, etc.

Up-beat music and a vocal guide play over the speakers to tell you when to move on to the next machine.

"It's a 30-minute workout. You're basically in and out. It's full body workout, so you're getting your strength training. I recommend it to anyone. You can meet your friends and meet new people in a great atmosphere," Goodman said, when asked why someone should join if they're not sure about a gym membership.

She said the reception she has received from patrons in her short time being open has been "fantastic."

"It was a little scary in the beginning. It's been a great experience so far," the first time business owner said.

Membership is $34 a month, with a one-time enrollment fee-which Goodman said they often have promotional discounts for. Women's Total Fitness also accepts any insurance that may provide a discount to monthly rates.

A grand opening, with refreshments and raffles, will be held from 3-7 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 1, to provide a more in-depth look into the philosophy of Women's Total Fitness and the programs it offers. A ribbon cutting is set for 4 p.m.

Hours are Monday-Friday from 6:30 a.m. to noon and 3:30-6:30 p.m. and Saturday 8-11 a.m.

Women's Total Fitness is at 2517 Santa Barbara Blvd., #2. in Cape Coral.
