August programs scheduled at Northwest Regional Library

August's roster of activities at Northwest Regional Library offers topics for all ages. The following activities are free to the public:

Adult Programs

English Caf

10:30 a.m., Thursdays, Aug. 9, 16, 23, 30

Free, informal conversation sessions for adult ESOL/ESL students.

Job-Link Budgeting Class

6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14

Look at money through a new lens. You won't find it scary again. Offered through Goodwill's Job-Link program.

New Movie Matinee

1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 15

Join us for a showing of a newly-released-on-DVD movie each month. We'll pop some popcorn and grab one of the hottest newly released DVDs to show. Movie ratings will vary and this program is primarily intended for adult audiences.

Tea Time Talks

6 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 28

Join us for an evening of books, fun and cookies. Everyone is welcome to stop by and discuss their favorite books. Get recommendations from friends, neighbors and librarians on everything from recent releases to forgotten classics. Tea and cookies will be provided. No registration required.

Storytime

Baby Rhyme Time

10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 11

10:30 a.m., Wednesdays, Aug. 22, 29

During this special storytime for babies up to 18 months, caregivers and babies learn nursery rhymes and fingerplays, interact with puppets, sing, read books and dance.

Toddler Tales

10:15 & 11:15 a.m., Mondays, Aug. 20, 27

This interactive and active time for toddlers and their caregiver is designed to advance pre-reading and social skills. They'll experience storytelling, wordplay, felt board stories, fingerplays, puppets, singing, music-making, socializing, dancing and, of course, books. For ages 18-36 months. Registration is required.

Preschool Storytime

10:15 & 11:15 a.m., Thursdays, Aug. 23, 30

For ages 3 5. Your preschooler will build relationships with other children, books and the library in a storytime designed specifically for them. Space is limited to 15 children per class. Children must be registered for each class individually. Registration is required.

Family Storytime

10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 25

Your whole family is invited to this enjoyable, all-ages storytime that encourages the development of pre-reading skills through songs, rhymes, fingerplays and stories.

Children's Programs

Kids Read Down Fines

10 a.m. - noon, Saturdays, Aug. 4, 18

5 7 p.m., Tuesdays, Aug. 7, 21

Children and teens earn a $2 coupon or credit for every 15 minutes they read in the designated area for a total of $8 in one session. Credit may be applied to cards issued to patrons age 18 and under and applies only to overdue charges.

Kindness Club

4 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 8

Join us at the library to create kindness in our community. Kids can participate in fun activities designed to encourage kindness and help make the world a better place. For grades K - 5. Sponsored by the Friends of Northwest Regional Library. Registration begins July 11.

Ants in Your Pants Dance Party

11 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 9

For ages 2 - 5. Shake your sillies out at the library. Get ready to twist and shout at this special dance party for toddlers and preschoolers. We'll boogie down to pop hits and favorite preschool tunes. Registration is required.

STEAM Club: Fairytale Architect

4:30 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 14

Join us for fun experiments and projects as we explore the world of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math.) Please dress for a mess. Registration is required.

Little Racers

11 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 16

Come and play in our imaginary town set up just for your little ones to explore and eventually destroy. We provide the town, vehicles and activities; all you have to do is bring your imagination. For ages 2-5. Registration is required.

Lego Club

2 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 18

Join us for a short story and Lego building activities. Lego pieces provided for use during this program.
