The unadulterated state of the union

To the editor:

Instead of the mass news media providing much of our understanding of reality, they chose to systematically bombard us with a their lopsided version of reality which is seriously jaded and basically false and misleading. You will never see the following items mentioned. A few of us do a little research to enlighten the rest of us.

How we get Congress to react is a horse of another color entirely. Our present Congress is responsible for them, for the most part, since they pass all of the laws and spend all of the money. It is safe to assume they think everything is just great. I have a newsflash for them. It is not hunky-dory. It is a mess of mammoth proportions! Since Congress will not ever pass term limits, we need to recycle the entire lot of them. It would only take six years to do this deed. Let us start the process by not ever re-electing an incumbent starting with the mid-term election. Send them a message.

First item is the national debt of $22 trillion. What is worse, it is continuing to grow at the rate of $1,000,000 (million) every 81 seconds. This situation is grossly offensive and reprehensible. Not a single politician is campaigning on the reversal of this brainless trend. Surely they are really aware of the fact this will lead to total collapse of the government.

Unbelievable - $22 trillion and counting since the Congressional-military-industrial-complex has hijacked the fundamental functions of our government. What is worse, their influence continues to expand, exacerbating our shaky survival. Who, exactly, proclaimed the USA as the power with a manifest destiny to rule the world? Others have tried this over the centuries and all have failed miserably. Read your history books folks! We are not special.

According to data published by the Census Bureau, at any given time we have between 1-3 million homeless in the USA. They also declared we have 45 million Americans still stuck below the poverty line. The annual threshold for being counted as living in poverty is $11,490 for one person and $23,550 for a family of four. Poverty is particularly dire for single mothers. One-third of all families headed by a single woman were in poverty last year. That is 5,6000,000 such households.

Fewer than half of kids today live in a "traditional family" with two parents - 46 percent of them. A marked change from 1960, when 73 percent of children fit this description and in 1980, when 61 percent did. Does this sound like moral degradation? It most certainly is. One of the largest shifts in family structure is this: 34 percent of children today are living with unmarried parents, up from just 9 percent in 1960 and 19 percent in 1980. Let's not forget the fact that 5 percent of these children are NOT living with either parent. All of these statistics are, or should be repulsive. Moral decline is out of control.

We are bombarded daily, by the mainstream news media, with tons of bovine body waste. With a $22 trillion national debt, seriously declining moral behavior, 45 million Americans living below the poverty level, 1-3 million homeless, why in hell are we discussing a few thousand illegal aliens that both political parties are using as a political football? Congress needs to work together to solve all of our social and financial problems, or resign! Now!!

Civil disorder is also starting to rear its ugly head. Not many days pass without hostility toward authority. It is prejudicial to public law and order. Stop murdering innocent citizens, school children, police officers, firefighters, etc. If not, we will be forced to become a police state with the aid of political grievances, economic disputes, social discord, terrorism, and a dysfunctional Congress.

Wake up Americans!!

Replace all of today's Congress! Start with the mid-term election!! Within six years, we could fire the whole lot and start anew!
