The Foundation for Lee County Public Schools holds Take Stock in Children Graduation Luncheon

May 4, 2018
Cape Coral Daily Breeze

On Monday April, 30, The Foundation for Lee County Public Schools recognized 33 high school seniors graduating from the Take Stock in Children Program. The graduates will receive a four-year, college tuition scholarship with a total value of approximately $560,000. The luncheon serves as an opportunity for parents, mentors and members of the business community to recognize the students for having met the requirements of the program.

The School District of Lee County Superintendent Dr. Greg Adkins and Foundation President & CEO Marshall Bower delivered encouraging words to the graduates, along with keynote speaker Larry Hart from the Lee County Tax Collector who also had an inspirational message to share.

"These outstanding students all maintained high GPAs and fulfilled their promise to be good citizens of our community," said Bower. "Equipped with a college education ,they will become out next leaders and decision makers!"

Take Stock in Children was established in 1995 as a statewide scholarship program that provides a unique opportunity for deserving, low-income, at risk youth to escape the cycle of poverty through education.

Lee County students enter the program in 6th or 9th grade and are required to sign a contract and meet specific expectations. Students are provided with caring volunteer mentors who remain continuously involved with students by providing ongoing educational and career counseling. Having met all of the program's requirements, students are awarded a four-year college tuition scholarship upon graduation.
