Cape High boys tennis team headed to state; girls squad falls to Bishop Verot

In the Class 2A regional finals Thursday, Bishop Verot's girls came out on top in a closely contested match against Cape High, winning 4-1 and advancing to the state finals next week.

Singles

#1 Marina Lombardo (BV) def. Laura Moreno (CC), 6-0, 6-0

#2 Gabrielle Magnant (BV) def. Ana Dieng (CC), 6-2, 6-4

#3 Bailey Klein (CC) def. Mackenzie Housler (CC), 7-6, 7-6

#4 Gabriella Martinez def. Yevheniya Kraysnksa (CC), 6-1, 6-2

#5 Singles was suspended after 4th Verot Win

Abbie Williamson (CC) and Kerry Dowdle (BV) split sets 3-6, 7-6

Doubles

#1 Lombardo/Uliana (BV) def. Moreno/Dieng (CC), 6-2, 6-3

#2 Doubles not played

Boys

Cape Coral 4, Mariner 0

The Cape Coral boys tennis team swept the first four singles matches against Mariner to clinch the Class 2A regional championship and advance as a team to the state finals next week. This will be the first time the Seahawks' boys team has advanced to the state finals.
