According to the police report, Mikkelson had entered the victim's open garage and knocked on the inner garage door leading to the house. The victim opened the door and saw no one, and stepped out to investigate. He discovered Mikkelson behind the door he had just opened holding a 6-inch knife. Mikkelson then demanded money from the victim, who quickly stepped back inside, locked the door and called police.

Mikkelson was charged with home invasion robbery as well as resisting without violence for fleeing police. He was transported to the Juvenile Assessment Center.
