Lowe's Hurricane Awareness Expo

A two-day Hurricane Awareness Expo will be held the first weekend of May at the Lowe's on Southwest 25th Lane of Veterans Parkway in Cape Coral.

The expo, to be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., May 5 and 6, will include a variety of guests, public safety personnel and a blood drive.

John Patrick, chief ABC meteorologist, will be there from 10-11 a.m. Saturday. Other guests will include the Gulf Coast Humane Society, which will provide shelter information and an adoption day event; the Cape Coral Emergency Response Team; the Cape Coral Police Volunteer Unit, which will provide kids fingerprinting; the Cape Coral Fire Department; the Red Cross Emergency Response Vehicle; the Lee County Blood Mobile, which will hold a blood drive; and AAA.

Nathan's Hot Dog-Eating Contest Saturday at Hammond Stadium

Nathan's Famous will host the Florida qualifier for the annual Fourth of July International Hot Dog-Eating Contest at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 14.

The event will take place at Hammond Stadium at the CenturyLink Sports Complex.

The top male and female finishers in the event will qualify for a seat at the Nathan's Famous Fourth of July International Hot Dog Eating Contest in Coney Island, Brooklyn, on July 4th, 2018, where they will face reigning champions Joey Chestnut and Miki Sudo. in Coney Island on July 4.

Those interested in competing in the Florida qualifier can visit to obtain information and register. All competitors must be over 18 years of age.
