Oasis sweeps season series with Gateway Charter, 73-60

The Oasis Sharks (10-4, 5-2) stayed right on the heels of District 5A-10 co-leaders Bishop Verot and Community School of Naples with a win and a season sweep of Gateway Charter (5-8, 2-5), 73-60.

Senior Gabe Casey posted a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds, junior Kylar Frias scored a team-high 19 points, junior Taylon Hutchins had 12 points, five assists and four steals; and sophomore Kyle Bethel scored 11 for the Sharks. Next up is a showdown at Bishop Verot on Friday.

Boys basketball

Dunbar 58, North Fort Myers 50: Freshman Ahmad Watkins scored 13 points for Dunbar (5-7). North fell to 3-8.

Girls basketball

Cape Coral 56, Dunbar 54: The Seahawks (11-4) held off a late charge by Dunbar (10-2) for the victory in a duel of two of Lee County's elite girls basketball programs. Alexia Popo-ski's 19 points led Cape Coral, while Crystal Tisme and Joilynn Lewis each scored 11 points.

Gateway Charter 52, Oasis 27: The first-place Gateway Griffins (14-0, 7-0 District 5A-10) dropped Oasis to 5-7, 1-4 on the year.

Boys soccer

Lemon Bay 8, Island Coast 0: The Gators slipped to 0-12, 0-7 in District 3A-13 as Lemon Bay (4-8-1, 1-4-0) earned its first district victory.

North Fort Myers 0, South Fort Myers 0 (tie): The Red Knights (2-13-2) and Bulldogs (7-5-2) played to a scoreless draw in a non-district match.

Cape Coral 3, Community School of Naples 2: In a battle of Seahawks vs. Sea-hawks, Cape Coral (16-1-1) got past Com-munity School (9-7-1) in a match played in Naples.

Girls soccer

Lemon Bay 9, Island Coast 1: The Manta Rays are 8-9-1, 3-3 in District 3A-13, while Island Coast is 2-11, 1-5 on the year. Riley Hare scored a goal for the Gators.

Cape Coral 76, Ida Baker 54: The Sea-hawks remained tied atop District 7A-10 with a 4-1 record (9-4 overall), rolling past city rival Ida Baker (1-9, 0-4).

Port Charlotte 65, North Fort Myers 21: Port Charlotte (5-3, 4-1 District 7A-10) rolled past the Red Knights (3-9, 1-4) to keep pace with Cape Coral at the top of the district standings.

LaBelle 73, Oasis 66: Enrique Hernandez led LaBelle with 24 points as the Cowboys (8-4, 3-3 District 5A-10) upended the Sharks (10-3, 5-1), handing Oasis its first district loss of the season.

Bishop Verot 62, St. John Neumann 28: Bishop Verot (8-5, 6-1 District 5A-10) got a double-double from senior Josh Schwartz with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Andrew Shepherd led the Vikings in scoring with 16 points to go along with nine assists, and Trace Darby scored 14 points. Neumann fell to 1-12, 0-7.

Lemon Bay 64, Island Coast 34: The Gators are 2-11, 1-2 in District 7A-10 with the loss. Lemon Bay is 7-5, 3-3.

Girls basketball

Cape Coral 72, Ida Baker 13: Cape Coral (10-4, 7-1 District 7A-10) had no trouble with its crosstown rival. The Bulldogs fell to 1-12, 0-4.

Oasis 47, LaBelle 25: Rylee Casey powered the Sharks to the win with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Dana Esteve added 11 points, six rebounds and six blocks.

Lemon Bay 42, Island Coast 29: Island Coast is 4-9, 3-5 in District 7A-10. Lemon Bay is 8-6, 2-2.

Boys soccer

Mariner 8, Port Charlotte 0: Leo Perez scored four times for the Tritons, and Eddie Reyes, Pedro Reyes, Santiago Guerrero and Esteban Orjuela also had goals. Mariner (17-5, 6-1 District 3A-13) has a big match Friday night against archrival Cape Coral for a share of first place in the district standings. Port Charlotte fell to 7-4-2, 6-2.

Cape Coral 2, Dunbar 1: Cape (15-1-1, 7-0 District 3A-13) edged the Tigers (4-6-2, 3-3).

LaBelle 3, Bishop Verot 0: The Cowboys (12-1-3, 5-0-1 District 2A-12) defeated Bishop Verot (5-9-2, 3-2) for the second time this season.

North Fort Myers 2, Cypress Lake 2 (tie): The Red Knights played to a District 3A-13 draw with the Panthers.

Girls soccer

Cape Coral 8, Dunbar 0: The Seahawks (10-5-1) improved to 4-2 in District 3A-13 with a dominating victory against Dunbar (0-11, 0-6).

Canterbury 3, Ida Baker 1: The Bulldogs (8-4-2) lost to an undefeated (17-0) Canterbury squad in a non-district match.

Oasis 4, South Fort Myers 0: The Sharks (10-3) dropped South Fort Myers to 2-15 with a non-district victory.

Bishop Verot 8, LaBelle 0: Nicole Gulati poured in four goals for the Vikings, with Nina Gulati scoring twice and making an assist. Lander Peck and Julie Taglieri had the other Bishop Verot goals. Olivia Reagan powered the attack with five assists. Leslie Saldana also had an assist. With the victory, Bishop Verot is 16-2, 7-0 in District 2A-12. LaBelle is 3-11-2, 0-7-1.

North Fort Myers 5, Cypress Lake 0: The Red Knights (11-2-1, 6-1 District 3A-13) scored four goals in the second half to pull away from Cypress Lake (9-8, 2-5).

Mariner 0,Port Charlotte 0 (tie): The Tritons are 12-2-4 with the scoreless draw, including 6-0-1 in District 3A-13. Port Charlotte is 5-6-4, 2-2-1.
