CCPD food drive collects 8 tons of food

The final totals for the Cape Coral Police Department's sixth annual Harry Chapin Food Drive are nearly 8 tons of food and $2,554 in cash that the Harry Chapin Food Bank can convert into six times that in meals to those in need.

Officers collected food at two dates and two locations in November:

* Nov. 14: The Cape Coral Police Department had officers collecting donations at the Walmart at 1619 Del Prado Blvd. South; 808 pounds of food was collected as well as $1,554.

* Nov. 17: The Cape Coral Police Department joined forces with Caldwell and Kerr Advertising and collected 14,936 pounds of food as well as a donation to the Harry Chapin Food Bank in the amount of $1,000.

Total pounds of food: 15,744 pounds or 7.872 tons

Total cash collected- $2,554.
