FSW men’s basketball team tops Broward

Led by four players that scored in double figures, the No. 15 FSW men's basketball team defeated Broward, 91-74, in its first road contest of the season on Tuesday night.

The Buccaneers, who ranked No. 5 in the 2017-18 Florida College System Activities Association NJCAA Region 8 Men's Basketball Preseason Coaches' Poll, improve to 2-0 on the season with the win, while Broward falls to 2-2 on the year.

Sophomore Tyler Cheese finished with a team-high 20 points. Jermar Perkins Jr. chipped in with 15 points, while Tremell Murphy and ShanQuan Hemphill added 14 points and 12 points, respectively.

The Bucs are back in action this weekend when they host the FSW Classic at Suncoast Credit Union Arena (Nov. 10-11). Day One will have Broward vs. Illinois Central (5 p.m.) and FSW vs. Pensacola State (7 p.m.), while the Day Two schedule is Pensacola State vs. Broward (12 p.m.) and FSW vs. Illinois Central (2 p.m.).

U.S. veterans of any military service branch or active duty military personnel will receive free admission to the games on Nov. 10. Veterans can go to the Suncoast Credit Union Arena ticket office on game night to pick up their tickets. Military I.D. must be presented to receive tickets.

FSW 77, Daytona State 59: Led by four players that scored in double figures, the No. 19 FSW women's basketball team extended its winning streak to four games with a 77-59 win over Daytona State on Tuesday night in Daytona.

With the victory, the Bucs move to 4-0 on the season, while Daytona State falls to 1-1 on the year.

The Purple and Aqua were led by LaToya Ashman, who finished with a game-high 19 points on 9-of-14 shooting from the field. Ashman also added a five boards and five steals in the win. Kiara Meeks tallied 18 points, four rebounds, three steals and a pair of assists. Tina Stephens chipped in with 13 points and nine boards, while Amanda Oliver added 11 points and three rebounds.

The Bucs are back in action this weekend (Nov. 10-11), when they head to Mariana, Fla., to participate in the Chipola Classic. FSW will face No. 4 Chipola on Nov. 10 (7 p.m. ET), before taking on Pensacola State on Nov. 11 (12 p.m. ET).

FSW 72, Chipola College 69: Led by three players that scored in double figures, the No. 19 FSW women's basketball team picked up a huge 72-69 upset of No. 4 Chipola College on the final day of the FSW Classic at Suncoast Credit Union Arena on Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the Bucs move to 3-0 on the season, while Chipola falls to 1-1 on the year.

The Purple and Aqua were led by LaToya Ashman, who finished with a game-high 22 points on 7 of 14 shooting from the field, 2 of 5 from long distance and 6 of 8 from the charity stripe. Ashman also added a four boards, two assists and a pair of steals in the upset.

Erna Normil recorded her first double-double of the season with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Kiara Meeks chipped in with 15 points, seven boards and five assists, while Tina Stephens added eight points and 10 rebounds.
