November 7, 2017
Cape Coral Daily Breeze

For the second time in three years, the FGCU women's soccer team travels to Tampa for the First Round of the NCAA Tournament to face USF. The Eagles and Bulls meet Saturday at 1 p.m. at Corbett Stadium.

This will be the Eagles' sixth trip to the national tournament in seven seasons and the program's fourth-consecutive appearance.

The Eagles booked their ticket with a dramatic 3-2 double-overtime victory over Lipscomb Sunday afternoon in The Music City. Trailing 2-0 after 45 minutes, Holly Fritz and Camille Knudstrup both scored to bring FGCU on level terms with 17 minutes remaining in the match. Then, just over halfway through the second overtime period, Varin Ness beat Kate Mason to give FGCU the victory.

FGCU is 14-3-1 on the year and the Green and Blue are unbeaten in nine of their last 10 matches. FGCU is outscoring opponents 50-11 this season, entering the NCAA Tourna-ment as the 4th-highest scoring offense in the country (2.78 goals per game). The Green and Blue enter the tournament at No. 35 in the RPI with a win over RPI No. 26 Arizona earlier in the year.
