The Cape Coral Art League was the scene for an early Christmas holiday celebration, including milk and cookies, when the judging of the inaugural "Celebrate the Holidays at Cultural Park Card Contest" was held Sunday, Oct. 26.

The judges were Cape Coral dignitaries Marilyn Stout, a Cape Coral city councilwoman; John Szerlag, Cape city manager; and Keith Locklin, the city's recreation superintendent. They selected three winners from many different entries.

The winners are Tenley Patrick, preschool to middle school; Jessica Baker, high school; and Richard Goodnight, adult categories. The winning original cards will be shown at Cape Coral City Hall Lobby from Nov. 27 to Dec. 8.

Local artist Roger Deering, Colin Peck and Hal Klingler will be transforming the three cards into giant cards to be displayed at "Celebrate the Holidays at Cultural Park," Dec. 9, from 5-8 p.m., at 528 Cultural Park Blvd. The hosts of this event are the Cape Coral Historical Society & Museum, Cultural Park Theatre and Cape Coral Art League. The celebration is a triple open house to all with music and good cheer.

Guests will be welcomed by carolers from local schools, decorations of the holidays at each building and Santa's arrival by a Cape Coral fire truck. Organizers are encouraging everyone to refresh themselves from this busy time of year and bring loved ones by for an old-fashioned stroll through holiday lights.

Those attending are urged to share the "holiday cheer" and bring nonperishable food items and/or new unwrapped gifts for children ages 3-8 for the Cape Coral Caring Center's annual Holiday Drive at the event.
