This one was all Cape Coral.

The Seahawks scored seven first-half touchdowns Thursday night in rolling to a 55-15 victory at Ida Baker High School.

Cape Coral rushed for 340 yards, including 121 by quarterback Dwayne Emilus in the first quarter, and piled up 421 yards of total offense against their city rivals.

With the win, the Seahawks improved to 2-1, 1-0 in District 6A-10. Ida Baker slipped to 0-3, 0-1.

Ricky Anderson ran for two touchdowns as seven different Seahawks reach the end zone.

The second half was played with a running clock after the Seahawks piled up a 48-8 halftime lead.

"We are still working at it, trying to get back from the break. Still too many danged penalties (10 for 90 yards," Cape Coral coach Larry Gary said.

This was the start of a brutal grind for both teams. With games lost to bad weather, including Hurricane Irma, both Cape Coral and Ida Baker are in a stretch of three games in nine days. After missing nearly three weeks, the teams are in a completely opposite situation from no time on the field to practically no time off it.

Ida Baker will be home against Charlotte on Tuesday, then travel to Mariner on Friday, Oct. 6. Meanwhile, Cape Coral has a home game Tuesday against Port Charlotte before another home contest Oct. 6 against Lehigh.

Charlotte rolled over Island Coast, 57-0, on Thursday, while North Fort Myers clipped Port Charlotte, 27-23.

"We're going to play a real good football team in Port Charlotte, and we've just got to clean up some things," Gary said.

"It's hard on everybody, including Port Charlotte," Gary said of the compacted schedule area teams are forced to play post-Irma.

Weather was a factor again Thursday, with lightning pushing the game back more than an hour past the scheduled 7:30 p.m. start.

"It's always good to get a victory" Gary said. "One thing about Baker is that their kids always play hard."

Cape jumped out on top right away. A punt block on Ida Baker's first possession put the Seahawks in business on the Bulldogs' 11 yard line. Anderson ran it in for a touchdown on the next play.

"We can't get into the flow of things," Baker coach Todd Nichols said. "Big plays hurt us on defense. Special teams had been doing well this season. That was a big play for them. It just snowballed from there."

Emilus ran the Seahawks down the field on Cape Coral's next possession before hitting Terrel Bass for an 18-yard scoring pass.

Usually found on the Seahawks' offensive and defensive lines, Mikel Coleman got a couple of runs to end the first quarter. Coleman scored Cape Coral's third TD of the first quarter on a 2-yard blast.

It was Anderson's turn again early in the second quarter, scoring from 7 yards out.

After staking Cape Coral to a 28-0 lead, Emilus gave way to Parker O'Dell as the Cape Coral quarterback early in the second quarter. O'Dell threw a 35-yard touchdown pass to Ethan Fruitt and a 32-yarder to Jeron Newson in the second quarter.

Adrian Canty raced 40 yards for another second period Cape Coral touchdown.

Christian Morgan added a 9-yard scoring run for the Seahawks in the fourth quarter.

Kicker Cooper Stone connected on six extra points in the first half for the Seahawks.

Shomari Mason got Ida Baker on the board with a 67-yard run in the second period. Jimmy Logan caught a two-point conversion pass from Evan Hubbard after Mason's TD.

Hubbard came in at quarterback in the second half and connected with Tommy Morrell on a 37-yard Ida Baker touchdown in the fourth period.

"He's throwing the ball better," Nichols said of Hubbard. "Every week he gets a little better."
