Something crafty is coming to Cape

AR Workshop Cape Coral is a boutique do-it-yourself workshop that offers hands-on classes to create custom and charming home decor from raw materials - such items as wood signs, trays, centerpiece boxes, canvas pillows and more.

The shop will also offer a boutique section featuring a curated display of gorgeous jewelry and decor and other retail!

United Mechanical Inc. celebrates 30th anniversary

What started from humble beginnings in the summer of 1987 has grown into an industry-leading mechanical company with five departments and over 200 employees serving both commercial and residential customers as far north as Bradenton, Fla., and as far south as Key West. United Mechanical Inc., based in Fort Myers, is celebrating their 30th anniversary.

On June 18, 1987, the company became a Florida corporation, founded by Harvey Clark, and operated from a small office over a car repair shop on Collins Avenue in Fort Myers. As the company prospered, the company relocated into a larger office on Metro Plantation Road. In 1999, Michael Clark became president and continued to grow the company until it outgrew its office space once again. In 2012, UMI would move into its current location at 8170 Mainline Parkway in south Fort Myers.

United Mechanical Inc. is a full-service, state-licensed, mechanical contractor offering residential and commercial air conditioning services, plumbing, pipefitting, sheet metal, electrical and insulation.

The commercial division's service area extends from Bradenton to Key West while the residential division's service area spans from Lee County to most coastal areas of Collier County.

Farmer to address Entrepreneur Society of America Wednesday

David Farmer, CEO of Metro Forecasting Models, will discuss population-growth trends in Southwest Florida at a meeting of the Entrepreneur Society of America Wednesday, Aug. 23, from 5:30-7 p.m., in Fort Myers. Farmer is a nationally recognized professional engineer and certified city planner with extensive experience in real estate development, planning and civil engineering, modeling and infrastructure design and construction.

Southwest Florida Startup Weekend Oct. 6-8

Entrepreneurs in Southwest Florida will build real companies from scratch during Startup Weekend, an entrepreneurial program that already has been held in 700 cities worldwide.

The inaugural Southwest Florida Startup Weekend will take place the weekend of Oct. 6-8 at Endeavor Innovative Workspaces, 8831 Business Park Drive, Unit 301, in Fort Myers. Startup Weekends are 54-hour events designed to provide experiential education for technical and non-technical entrepreneurs. Beginning with Friday night pitches and continuing through brainstorming, business-plan development and basic prototype creation, Startup Weekends culminate in Sunday night demos and presentations to a seasoned panel of investors and entrepreneurs.

At the start of the event, approximately 75 startup entrepreneurs will make brief one-minute pitches to each other and create 10 to 15 teams after they've selected the best ideas. Experienced entrepreneurs will pitch in to help mentor the teams and provide guidance throughout the weekend.

Startup Weekend is run by local organizers in 700 cities and 150 countries worldwide with help from Techstars, an entrepreneur network which provides a facilitator for each event. Speakers and judges for Startup Weekend in Fort Myers will include Louis Bruno, president of Bruno Air Conditioning; Norman Love, chef, president and founder of Norman Love Confections; and Bud Stoddard, a serial entrepreneur and founding member of Tamiami Angel Funds.

Haus of Trikes and Bikes to expand showroom and service center

Fort Myers-based Haus of Trikes and Bikes has released plans to expand its facility to nearly 30,000 square feet into the adjacent building. The current facility on 4601 Fowler St. has been serving local bikers for 18 years, selling new/used motorcycles and trikes as well as providing repairs and rentals.

Owners Manfred Glanzner and Herbert Baum have acquired the former Michigan Homes office building and adjacent warehouses next to their current location and plan to open the newly renovated facility in October 2017. The plans will expand the showroom from 5,000 to over 30,000 square feet making it one of the biggest motorcycle and trike showroom in Southwest Florida.

The service area will grow to 4,000 square feet, servicing all V-Twins such as Harley Davidson, Victory and Indian bikes as well as all other metric brands. The state-of-the-art two-story facility will always showcase over 200 bikes and trikes

The grand opening is planned for this fall and will include live music, food and specials.

Conditioned Air names Alicea service manager for the Southern Region

Conditioned Air Company of Naples, LLC, announced the promotion of Ernesto Alicea to service manager for the Southern Region, covering Collier and Lee counties. In this role, Alicea oversees the technicians that repair and maintain the heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems for commercial and residential customers.

A native of Detroit, Alicea has been a certified HVACR contractor since taking over his father's business in Michigan in 2003. He relocated to Naples in 2005 and joined Conditioned Air in 2007, starting as a Commercial Service Technician. He was promoted to Tech Advisor, then to a Field Supervisor, and then to the Assistant Service Manager.

Individual, team registration still available for Junior Achievement's 2017 Bowl-A-Thon

Individual and team registration is still available for the Junior Achievement of Southwest Florida's sixth annual Bowl-A-Thon fundraising event, taking place from 6-8:30 p.m., on Wednesday, Aug. 30, at the HeadPinz Entertainment Center, located at 14513 Global Parkway in Fort Myers.

Registration for the bowl-a-thon is $175 for individual players, and $750 for teams of six, is available at www.JASWFL.org/junior-achievement-bowl-a-thon.

Junior Achievement of Southwest Florida's annual Bowl-A-Thon provides team building opportunities and friendly competition for businesses, colleagues, neighbors and friends. Individual players will be assigned to a team, or teams of six can register together.

Each participant will receive a team shirt, food, beverage, two adult beverages, shoes and lane rental.

Presented by Sanibel Captiva Com-munity Bank, the Bowl-A-Thon event will support Junior Achievement of Southwest Florida's efforts to provide educational programs on financial literacy, work readiness and entrepreneurship throughout Southwest Florida schools.
