Council must control spending

August 3, 2017
Cape Coral Daily Breeze

To the editor:

Thank you once again for one of your excellent Editorials "We of Little Faith" in last week's Cape Coral Breeze. I am very surprised on the lack of Letters to the Editor concerning LCEC, it is almost like nobody cares anymore about what is happening in our city government. We do have a very important election coming up, a chance to get our out-of-control spending back where it belongs and just maybe we will conclude the LCEC talks with transparency.

Also commenting on a remark that Councilman Carioscia made in your front page article by Jim Linette "Council members mull proposed tax rate.". Councilman Carioscia said that "I am more apt to look at the spending side over the revenue side. I want to take a look at where we are spending our money..."

I do hope Councilman Carioscia looks at the waste, over a million dollars with the LCEC talks, taking $13 million from the water account to buy land, including on Pine Island and the pending lawsuit that goes with it.

How about looking at all of the consultants that have been hired over the past year? You do need to look at the spending being done by your city manager; it seems this council has given him a free hand on all spending without any controls whatsoever.
