Lee County Community Development issues July permit report

During July, contractors pulled 105 permits to build single-family houses collectively valued at about $23.3 million in unincorporated Lee County. That compares to 171 permits issued in June 2017 and 90 issued in July 2016, according to the Lee County Department of Community Develop-ment.

Also during July, 155 multi-family units valued at about $22.3 million were permitted, compared to 10 units in June 2017 and eight units in July 2016.

General commercial activity was valued at about $10.6 million for 18 permits, compared to about $63.4 million in June 2017 and about $333,000 in July 2016.

Lee County Community Develop-ment issued 3,815 permits of all kinds in July.

Lee County Community Develop-ment oversees planning, zoning, development and building services, environmental review, building inspection and code enforcement for the unincorporated areas of Lee County.

Stevens Construction Inc. wins Aurora Award

For the 10th year, Stevens Construction has won an Aurora Award at the Southeast Builder's Conference. The Aurora Awards honor the best in construction in a 12-state region. In a ceremony held on July 28 in Orlando, Stevens Construction earned an Aurora Award in the interior renovations commercial category for The French, a fine-dining restaurant in Naples. Located at 365 5th Ave., South, The French transports diners to a Parisian brasserie with architectural elements such as custom embossed tin ceilings, oversized antiqued mirrors, red leather banquettes, black and white patterned mosaic floors, and hand painted, original murals by local artist, Megan Young.

Entries were judged on design, quality of construction, unusual constraints, cost savings techniques and outstanding features.

Construction of Creative World School begins in Gateway

Owen-Ames-Kimball Company has broken ground on a Creative World School in Gateway, located at 11961 Fairway Lakes Drive in Fort Myers.

Owners Amy and Chris O'Malley will be opening their third Creative World School franchise in Gateway. The 13,000-square-foot school will be opening in January 2018 and is able to accommodate up to 250 students, featuring a preschool for ages 3 months through 5 years and a before- and after-school program for students ages 6 to 10 years. It will include age level appropriate classrooms, kitchen, offices and multiple outdoor play areas.

The Place on First reveals new studio apartment, redesigns floor plan

The Place on First, a new mixed-use building coming to the historic downtown Fort Myers River District, has announced the addition of a studio apartment floor plan, The Lee, to its lineup of residences, as well as a redesign of another floor plan, The Jackson. Reservations are currently being accepted for the 15 one-, two- and three-bedroom residences available at The Place on First, which will be located on the corner of First and Jackson streets in the heart of downtown Fort Myers.

The Lee studio apartment is a one-bedroom, one-bath residence with an open living area with a west-facing terrace overlooking Jackson Street. A full kitchen, walk-in closet and utility room complete the space. The Place on First's newest 842-square-foot floor plan will start from the $200,000s.

Messenger oversees sales at Neal Communities' Daniels Place

Steve Messenger, a new homes sales representative with Neal Communities, a Southwest Florida private homebuilder, recently took over the sales for Daniels Place, a master-planned community in Fort Myers with 85 single-family homes.
