Yard Dog Charlie's annual "Helping Paws Food and Supply Drive" deck party takes place Tuesday, July 4, at Woody's Waterside.

"Florida is famous for the 'Early Bird Specials,'" Charlie said. "There are early bird breakfasts, early bird lunches and dinners, early bird movies, car deals and even boat deals. Just about every recreational activity has an early bird special. So I thought why not an 'Early Bird' 4th of July Party and BBQ? And, at the same time help a local organization."

Charlie's wife Deb is very involved in helping to rescue and place abandoned pets and has become friends with Marnie Miszewski, owner of Helping Paws Animal Shelter. Helping Paws Animal Sanctuary is a 501(c)3 non-profit, no kill shelter, housing almost 200 healthy cats and kittens as well as cats with special needs.

"So a big part of this is to collect food for the shelter," Charlie said. "There will be raffles and a 50/50 drawing and drink and food specials. Everyone that donates food, supplies or money to the shelter gets raffle tickets. The shelter needs canned cat food, scoopable cat litter, premium dry cat food (Iams, Purina One, Science Diet, Grain Free, etc.), treats, paper towels, trash bags, bleach and other cleaning products. Also gift certificates from Publix, PetSmart, etc., are welcome."

As always, the party features the "Florida Swamp Music" of Yard Dog Charlie. The Fourth of July party begins at 2 p.m. and goes until 5 p.m.

"Everyone should come out early and party before the crazies come out to blow up our neighborhoods with hand-held fire works, scaring us and our pets half to death," Charlie said.
