Cape Coral Daily Breeze

To the editor:

The following letter has been sent to Mayor Marni Sawicki and other Cape Coral officials:

The Florida Wildlife Federation is writing to express our concern about the request filed by Florida Gulf Venture, LLC for a Future Land Use Map change amendment from PK - Parks & Recreation - to R-IBSF - Single Family Residential for the former Cape Coral Golf Club property located at 4003 Palm Tree Blvd., Cape Coral, Florida. We strongly oppose the proposed land use amendment.

The importance of maintaining public greenspaces in cities, particularly here where there is abundant wildlife and wildflowers in a setting of mature and diverse trees, has been proven to be of great importance to making cities great places to live.

We understand that the future land use for this property has been designated under the City's Comprehensive plan as Parks and Recreation since the plan was first developed. Please support maintaining the Parks and Recreation designation of this property so it can continue to be a great place to enjoy what nature has provided us in Southwest Florida for us and for future generations.

Please vote no on the Future Land Use Map change amendment. We also urge you to look at options to acquire this property through land swaps of less sensitive land, 20/20 Conservation funds, land trusts, and other possible public/private partnerships.

Manley Fuller

President, Florida Wildlife Federation
