Oasis flea market fund raiser set for Saturday

Like flea markets encountered everywhere, you don't know exactly what you will find at the one at Oasis High School on Saturday.

But you're almost certain to find something good.

This flea market is being put on by the Oasis graduating Class of 2017 as a class project they hope will establish a new tradition and legacy for the school. Students want to raise enough funds to provide a scholarship for a deserving Oasis student with half the funds to be distributed to a charity in the community.

"We want the next senior class to keep it going and make it a tradition," said senior George Cabal, who is one of the class project organizers. "We've been working on this since mid-March. We should raise significant funds through the silent auction. We have no set goal of what we expect to raise, just as much as we can."

The project was hatched in the English Honors class of Jeff Rehm. The seniors' ideas morphed into a large flea market to run 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. this Saturday.

Plans include a car wash, a variety of food and beverages, vendors selling clothing and other items with some value remaining, like glass and art objects, appliances, knick-knacks and more.

Cabal and other students have been busy soliciting area businesses and stores for donations for the silent auction. Bidding on silent auction items consist of prizes valued up to $1,000.

Kids can enjoy fun activities like games, a bounce house, water balloons and face painting. Entertainment and performances on stage are by charter school students and possibly a local band.

For more information call the school at 239-541-1167.
