Zander Wiel and Brian Navarreto each collected three hits for the Fort Myers Miracle as the squad took three of four game against the Florida Fire Frogs with an 8-3 win Thursday night at Hammond Stadium. David Fischer (2-0) struck out seven over six innings of one-run ball to earn the win.
Both teams are now 6-9 on the year.
While Fischer was dealing on one end, Fort Myers used two big innings of stringing together hits to plate the majority of their runs. In the bottom of the second, Wiel sparked a two-out rally with a triple. Sean Miller brought him home with a double before Navarreto scored Miller with a two-bagger of his own.
After an Alex Jackson blast, his FSL-leading fifth of the year, the Miracle sent nine men to the plate in the bottom of the sixth. The Fire Frogs' Touki Toussaint (1-2) had pitched well to that point, but began the inning by allowing five consecutive hitters to reach base, capped by a Wiel two-run double, to chase him from the game. A five-run frame set the groundwork for the blowout.
The Frogs added two extra runs in the eighth, while Navarreto drove in Wiel for an added tally in the ninth. Chris Paul extended his on-base streak to 14 games to begin the year.
Fort Myers heads Dunedin for a three-game set beginning tonight. Right-hander Keaton Steele gets the ball for the Miracle with first pitch at 6:30 p.m.
