The rest of the story

April 21, 2017
Cape Coral Daily Breeze

To the editor:

"On The Move" is the Cape Coral newsletter that keeps our residents well informed. Occasionally further explanation is needed. The Spring edition on solar provided by LCEC is a case in point. Any LCEC customer is welcome to generate solar power and excesses will be purchased at the same rate LCEC purchases most of their power, no more no less. Since 2008 there are now 300 such customers enrolled in this program. We know someone who had solar installed in December 2016 at a cost of $50,000. However, he receives a 30 percent credit on his tax return thus saving $15,000. In addition, he says his over $300 monthly bills are now under $100, and he expects to sell excess energy to LCEC this summer. He is a happy customer.

In the Winter edition, issue was taken with equity margins. As a USAA insurance customer, we are aware there are billions of dollars in their equity reserves. There are insurance companies with lower premiums; however, we believe with the USAA rebates and their customer service, we will remain loyal clients. After all, for-profit companies are interested in their bottom line to provide for their stock-holders, not the community we live in.
