May's roster of activities at Cape Coral Lee County Public Library offers topics for all ages. The following activities are free to the public:

Adult Programs

Craft Corner: Knitting and Crocheting

3 p.m., Mondays, May 1, 8, 15, 22

3 p.m., Tuesday, May 30

A casual, self-guided group of knitters and crocheters share ideas, techniques and patterns. Sponsored by Friends of the Cape Coral Public Library.

English Caf

6 p.m., Tuesdays, May 2, 9, 16, 23, 30

Free, informal conversation sessions for adult ESOL/ESL students.

Hatha Yoga

9:30 a.m., Wednesdays, May 3, 17, 31

Hatha Yoga is a mind/body practice that combines physical postures, breathing exercises and meditation or relaxation. Sponsored by Friends of Cape Coral Library. Before beginning any exercise program, please consult your physician. Registration is required.

Value of Searching Public Records

and Online Services

1:30 p.m., Friday, May 5

This public seminar reviews information available on the Lee County Clerk of Court website including: Reporting guardianship fraud; using civil and criminal public records; obtaining copies of deeds and mortgages; paying traffic tickets online; obtaining postponement or excusal of jury duty; obtaining a passport or marriage license and links to other agencies. Registration is required.

Tai Chi/Qi Gong

11 a.m., Thursdays, May 11, 25

A low-impact stress reducing exercise for all fitness levels. Tai chi/qi gong is meditation in motion, a technique that integrates body, mind and spirit. Sponsored by Friends of Cape Coral Library. Registration is required.

Community Classroom: A Healthy Heart for Life

1 p.m., Monday, May 15

Heart disease kills more men and women in the U. S. than any other disease. According to the American Heart Association, every 34 seconds someone in this country has a heart attack. The Community Classroom program series is presented by Angels Care Home Health. Registration is required.

Self-defense Demo

1 p.m., Thursday, May 18

This demonstration, presented by Alex and Tina Kasser of Fit & Fun, is a short introduction to self-defense for all fitness levels and ages. The program is based on military combat principles with easy-to-learn techniques. Demonstrations will illustrate how to be prepared for dangerous situations; feel more self confident; and become an opponent rather than a victim. Registration is required.

Coloring for Grown-ups

11 a.m., Friday, May 19

The repetitive motion involved in coloring has a calming effect and adults have found this childhood activity a refreshing way to release their creativity, relieve stress and meet other participants. Materials provided. Sponsored by Friends of the Cape Coral Public Library.

Navigating the Medicare Maze

1 p.m., Wednesday, May 24

Subjects to be discussed include enrollment periods, guaranteed issue versus medical qualification, original Medicare (Part A, Part B) versus Medicare Advantage (Part C), Medicare supplements, Medicare prescription plans (Part D), penalties and income related Medicare adjustment amount as well as legislative changes to Medicare. Presented by Alison Free of Banker's Life. Registration is required.

Kids Read Down Fines

3:30-4:30 p.m., Thursdays, May 11, 25

Children and teens can earn a credit for every 15 minutes they read in the designated area for a total of $8 in one session. Credit may be applied to cards issued to patrons age 18 and under only and applies only to charges on overdue materials. Please bring your library card to the Youth Services Desk to register.

Symphony Storytime

10 a.m. Tuesday, May 2

A tuneful twist on family storytime, offered in partnership with the Gulf Coast Symphony. This special storytime will be held in the Adult Meeting Room.

Artsy Storytime!

Join a special storytime with a focus on art. For children ages 5 and under, accompanied by a caregiver. Please dress for mess. All supplies will be provided by the library. Sponsored by Friends of the Cape Coral Library. Register online or get a ticket in the Youth Services department at the library. Registration is limited to 50.

An Afternoon at the Movies

1 p.m., Saturday, May 13

After a car accident leaves him with nerve damage that ends his career, a neurosurgeon travels to Kathmandu in the hope of finding an otherworldly cure for his injuries. Rated PG-13. For ages 13 and up. Movie showings are subject to change without notice. Seating is limited. First come, first served.
