Next month’s activities, events planned for Northwest Regional Library

Next month's roster of activities at Northwest Regional Library offers topics for all ages. The following activities are free to the public:

Adult Programs

Tai Chi

11 a.m., Wednesday, March 8

A low-impact, stress-reducing exercise for all fitness levels. Tai chi is meditation in motion, a technique that integrates body, mind and spirit. Space is limited to the first 30 people.

English Caf

10:30 a.m., Thursdays,

March 9, 16, 23, 30

Free, informal conversation sessions for adult ESOL/ESL students.

New Movie Matinee

1:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 15

Join us for a showing of a newly released movie each month. Seating is available for 200. Movie ratings will vary. This program is primarily intended for adult audiences. Please contact the library to ask for the name of the film.

Tea Time Talks

6:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 28

Join us for an evening of books, fun and cookies! Everyone is welcome to stop by to discuss their favorite books in room B/C. Get recommendations from friends, neighbors and librarians on everything from recent releases to forgotten classics. Tea and cookies will be provided. No registration required.

Exhibit: Florida Native Plants

March 30 31

Available during normal library operating hours: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday: 10 a.m. 6 p.m.; Tuesday: Noon 8 p.m.; Friday, Saturday: 9 a.m. 5 p.m.

Learn about the importance of choosing native Florida plants for your backyard. Hosted by the Coccoloba Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society.

Storytime

Toddler Tales

10:15 & 11:15 a.m., Mondays,

March 13, 20, 27

This interactive time for toddlers ages 18-36 months and a caregiver will include storytelling, wordplay, fingerplays and music-making designed to advance prereading skills. Caregivers are encouraged to participate to model storytime behavior. Registration is required.

Baby Rhyme Time

10:30 a.m., Wednesdays,

March 15, 22, 29

During this special storytime for babies, ages newborn to 18 months, caregivers and babies learn nursery rhymes and fingerplays, interact with puppets, sing, read books and dance.

Preschool Storytime

11 a.m., Thursdays, March 16, 23, 30

Children attend this program independently while the caregiver waits nearby. Your preschooler will continue to build relationships with other kids, books, and the library in a storytime designed specifically for them. The stories and activities are more complex, but just as fun. Registration is required.

Children's Programs

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!

10 a.m., Thursday, March 2

Celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday at the library. Caregivers will guide their children through age-appropriate activity stations that are designed specifically for toddlers and preschoolers. Sponsored by the Friends of the Northwest Regional Library. Registration is not required.

Kids Read Down Fines

10 a.m. to noon, Saturdays, March 4, 18

5-7 p.m., Tuesdays, March 7, 21

Children and teens earn a $2 coupon or credit for every 15 minutes they read in the designated area for a total of $8 in one session. Credit may be applied to cards issued to patrons age 18 and under and applies only to overdue charges.

Ants in Your Pants Dance Party

10:30 a.m. to noon, Thursday, March 9

Drop in for some silly fun. Exhibit your best funky dance moves and shake all those sillies out. Appropriate music will be playing and musical instruments will be available to aide in your grooving.

Lego Club

2 p.m., Saturday, March 11

Join us for a short story and Lego-based games and activities. Children can also build and share a Lego creation. Lego pieces provided.

Teen Programs

Retro Reels

When a space shuttle exercise misfires during camp, five teens find themselves launched into orbit, facing the adventure of a lifetime. Now, the only way back to Earth is to take command of the ship and control of their destinies, before time and oxygen run out.

Nailed It! DIY for Teens

4 p.m., Tuesday, March 28

Drop into the Teen Zone for this monthly maker lab where teens and tweens take on Pinterest and YouTube projects to find out if they really work. All supplies provided. Sponsored by the Friends of the Northwest Regional Library.
