It's that time of year again, when students begin dragging their parents to the stores to grab the latest school fashions for the first day of school.
According to a Staples survey, which targeted a little more than 1,000 parents of children between 13 and 19 years old, 43 percent of parents with teens enjoy going back-to-school shopping because they have the opportunity to relive their own school days.
The same survey states that 40 percent of parents believe it is important to purchase trendy clothing, and 60 percent are likely to buy the hottest patterns. Staples also revealed that 35 percent of fathers of teenagers, and 25 percent of mothers who have teenagers, go for clothing function.

As parents flip through the latest ads for the best deals, there are a few trends stores will be carrying this year for back-to-school.
"We always love color, especially back-to-school," said Sofia Wacksman, vice president of trend for Kohl's Department Stores.
Belk Store Manager Daphne Folsom said chiffon tops with chevron patterns are a big trend this year for girl sizes 7 to 16. Black and white is also the color of choice, she said.
As far as bottoms, knit maxi skirts are a hot item in stripes.
Girls can spruce up their outfit with scarves or Hello Kitty accessories to complete the overall look.
For boy's sizes 8 to 20, the main focus is denim for this season's back to school trend.
"There is going to be higher penetration of the 505s, the basic fits," Folsom explained of an increase in the slim fitting denim.
Under Armor shirts, she said, are trending in both short sleeve and golf polos for the boys. Ralph Lauren basic mesh polos, as well as crew and v-neck T-shirts are also popular.
Sean Sondreal, chief marketing officer and senior vice president for Bealls Department Stores, said the active wear trend has continued to be the fastest growing element at their stores.
"It is all about color, whether it is apparel or footwear," he said. "And, Nike is the cornerstone of our active wear and athletic shoe assortment."
There are eight popular fashions this year for junior girls.
The boho top, which is a woven material with a tank top worn underneath, is offered in various different patterns for juniors to choose from. Other popular tops worn by juniors this year are boxy and embellished designed sweatshirts.
"Oversized tees and sweatshirts in quirky conversational prints like lips, kitties and dots in bright highlighter hues are fun to wear with the perfect leggings," Wacksman said.
The fancy tee, a basic knit tee, with three-quarter length sleeves, will mostly be found in pastel colors with embellished jewels around the neck. The statement cardigan, which falls down to the knees, can be found in solids, stripes, navy blue and cream colors, as well as chevron.
The shift dress, Folsom said, which is a short straight dress from the 1970s, is making a comeback for this school year. She said the dress comes in such colors as rich blues, purples, mauves, as well as the chevron print. The skater skirt, a short a-line above the knee, comes in such solid colors as burgundy's and blues.
Acid washed denim, Folsom said, is also back this year for juniors. She said the denim looks just like what was popular in the late 198's, early 1990s. The majority of the acid washed denim styles can be found in the super skinny fit.
